How has LSU not retired Glenn Dorsey's number?
Without a doubt the most decorated defensive lineman in the history of LSU and one of the most decorated defensive lineman in the history of college football. This season is the 10 year anniversary of the 07 season. Retire his number at the start of the Auburn game as a frick you to Auburn for calling in a code red on him in the 07 game. Thoughts?

He has to get in line behind Kevin Faulk

I've never seen a fanbase more obsessed with trying to retire people's numbers. Dorsey was a great player. Doesn't need his number retired. I'm fine with Cannon being the only retired number personally.

Side note on retiring "jerseys" at LSU.

quote:

The retirement of the jerseys of Casanova, McDonald and Macklin comes under a new provision of the LSU jersey retirement bylaws that says the retirement of an athlete’s jersey in a particular sport does not preclude a current student-athlete in that sport from wearing the jersey number in that or any other sport, subject to the discretion of the head coach.  This provision applies only to jerseys retired after January 1, 2007, so the numbers worn by Maravich, Pettit, O’Neal, Cannon and Bertman may never again be worn by future student-athletes in their respective sports.

Hold up, aren't you supposed to be in a lifetime self ban at the moment for all your "sauces" in the coaching frickery.

he was great but not great enough to get number retired. Got to have a Shaq and Pistol Pete type legacy. Shaq and Pistol are legendary. Dorsey isn't legendary. Dorsey isn't really known beyond LSU or serious sports fans.

What about Kevin Mawae?

Not only a great LSU player but HoF NFLer and still an active donor to LSU.

I agree that without a doubt, Faulk is next and it's not even close. As much as he did on the field doesn't even compare to the change of perception he provided for LSU football, which is what was the start of getting us to the power we have become.

I'm more in favor of a Ring of Honor rather than retiring numbers.

I can't speak on the retirement of his number thing but wanted to say that Glenn Dorsey is one of my all-time favorite players. He was a unique type of player on the D-Line that was always creating havoc in the backfield. When you look at the national awards that he received during his time at LSU, it's about as impressive as it gets.

Let's just retire every jersey from every good player we've ever had. We issue numbers with 0's and decimals for future players.

Seriously, might sound selfish, but I don't want to see those numbers retired in a way that would discourage future players from being able to wear their favorite number. Honor the number in the stadium on a ring, but leave it available.

We don't need to retire the number of every great player to come through LSU.
