I have watched every LSU game but haven't seen one Ole Miss game. In terms of the polls, Ole Miss is ranked #23 and LSU is ranked #25, so that seems pretty even, but what should we expect on Saturday night?

This.

Their defense is weak against the run and we're, you know, kind of good at that. If we put pressure on Kelly this game will be a route.

LSU easily. Ole Miss is gonna get stuffed.

LSU pass defense vs Ole Miss pass offense
Great matchup. But I think Ole Miss has the slight edge. They make big plays every game.

Ole Miss rush defense vs LSU rush offense

Ole Miss has no chance here. We will gash the hell out of them. Run right at their fast but undersized D.

Ole Miss pass defense vs LSU pass offense

LSU has an advantage here also

LSU special teams vs Ole Miss special teams
A wash. Both are capable.

We can't give Kelly time to throw the ball. The thing i am worried about, is swag getting out of the pocket. He is a pretty good athlete and can make plays with his feet. We should be able to run the ball at will, but i would like to see us throw plenty of short routes to keep the passing game open. I'm sure Ole Piss will stack the box and make us beat them in the air.

We do not want to get into a scoring match with them. IMO if we keep it a low scoring game, we win. If it turns into a shoot out, we lose.

It seems that the key to stopping them on the ground is containing Kelly. He seems to be their key running threat. As with any talented, mobile QB who can also throw, he's tough to contain. I do think we have enough speed on defense to keep him from making big plays, but I don't know if we can really stuff their running game altogether.

Should be a great matchup. We have a strong secondary and pass rushers, while they have elite receivers and a very good passer at QB. Getting a pass rush will be crucial, but we also have to be under control to keep contain. This will probably be the toughest part of the game for us.

On paper, it looks like a mismatch. Teams have been able to run well on them, and we have a good running game. The respective levels of competition we've faced are probably skewing those numbers, and we haven't had running success against the two good defenses we faced. But, importantly, that was before the coaching change and we may be much more effective now with a better offensive game plan. I'd guess that we will have success running the ball unless they just totally stack the box and dare us to beat them through the air.

We should be able to throw on them, especially if they are loading the box to stop the run. It's really crucial that the OL give Etling protection, and that hasn't been a strong point for us so far. I expect Ole Miss to come after him a lot, so if he can buy time with his feet and keep making good decisions on the run like he has, it will really help.

This seems like a crapshoot. They have a really good placekicker, while Delahoussaye has been somewhat inconsistent. Our coverage teams have looked good, which is a big improvement over last year, but I don't think we've faced the kind of athletes that Ole Miss will have back there, so it's hard to say. Our punter had a better game Saturday than he has in past games, and it will be important for him to have another one this week. Our defense will be challenged more than in any other game this year and it will be important not to give Ole Miss a short field.

A close game, possibly high-scoring, is what it looks like. I think our offense probably has more of advantage on their defense than theirs does with ours, so I'm expecting us to win, but it will be a tough, challenging game no doubt about it. I do think they will have to score close to, if not more than, 30 points to win. If they get to 30, it'll be interesting to see if we can win in a shootout.

I'll guess we win something like 31-24.

Define success.

Fournette had over 100 yards and an average of 6.0 yards per rush against Wisconsin, and as a team LSU had over 200 against Auburn with an average of 6 yards per rush.

LSU has run the ball on everyone with an 100 yard rusher in each game.

I think the key to this game is not allowing Kelly to breakout of the pocket and ad lib.

He's dangerous as a runner and throwing on the move to their great WRs.

If we can get pressure on him AND keep him in the pocket a good bit, we win. If he breaks contain a lot and has daylight to run/throw on the run, they will put up a lot of points. Kelly is a very legit QB.

Their defense is not good though. Their DBs are inexperienced and their rushing defense is just not good. Hopefully we lean on them a lot and start gaining chunk yardage in the second half and keep the ball out of Kelly's hands.

I think LSU is going to have trouble with Kelly. If pocket containment breaks down, Kelly will pick up the 1st. We will need to spy the QB most of the game, which means playing a lot of Man D.

LSU run defense >> Ole Miss run offense
LSU pass defense, Ole Miss pass offense--a wash. Ole Miss will get a lot of completions
LSU rush offense > Ole Miss rush defense
LSU pass offense >> Ole Miss pass defense
Was really impressed with Etling long passes on Saturday.
LSU special teams > Ole Miss special teams

On paper, LSU wins easily.

Ole Miss always plays LSU tougher than expected. It won't be decided until late in the 4th quarter, but LSU wins.

You just never know about Ole Miss because Kelly can go from being the best QB in the nation to a turn over prone mess all in the same game.

Ole Miss has very big and physical receivers who will go up and get the football. Kelly, when on, can really hurt you bad in the pass game so for this I would give Ole Miss a chance to win against anyone.

Their issue is on defense, while talented, they are on the field alot and get tired as the game wears on especially if the other team can sustain drives.

I can't really get a feel for this game and how it will play out but it should be a good one.

Arkansas had 465 Yards Total Offense and one of their Running Backs had 180 yards rushing. Ole Miss did not match up well. Ole Miss Passing was 46%. Ole Miss peaked in the 2nd Qtr. and went downhill after that.

Agreed and how well we do this will be a good indication of how well we do against Alabama and Jalen Hurts.

How is rushing only > and passing >> in your book?

Ole Miss' rush defense is ranked 104 in the NCAA and LSU's rushing attack is 24th. While their pass defense (yards allowed) is 74th to LSU's offense of 105th.

Seems backwards if you ask me.

Also, I'm curious to see if Kelly has any aftereffects of that hit he took at the end of the game against Arkansas. Looked like he got popped pretty good in his throwing arm/shoulder and that he was stunned afterwards.

Fair enough. We have run the ball well, but have not had offensive success against those two good defenses relying mostly on our running game. With better game planning and play calling, we might have more success now.

the game will be decided by how long the fans and specifically the students stay... we leave early and we're screwed
