Despite what some of the few delusional posters want to believe the DL looks like as much shite as the secondary. Wingo has become a non-factor since the first game. Smith doesn’t even look like he belongs in the two deep at Iowa St, let alone a potential 1st round pick. They bulked Jones up so much that he’s become…Ali Gaye. They DL rotation has been curious, at best.

Unlike the secondary though, no position group has had so much unexpected coaching turnover in such a short amount of time. Cain leaves in the middle of Spring practice. Lindsey is hired only to be diagnosed with (apparently) cancer on the eve of camp starting. That left the staff trying to piece things together the best they could. Clearly it’s not working. Some maybe in an effort to create some sort of change they are bringing in an experienced coach to try to help in a very thought situation.

I doubt this is Woodward forcing any sort of change as much as it is Kelly trying to do something to create any sort of passable defense to help save the season (as best they can).

Well, yes, obviously. I meant as a mid-season spur of the moment thing. I know very well of his legacy. When I was in high school, I actually went to a camp he and several of his former players were coaches. The man is cerebral.

Woody: Hey Pete…Would you be willing to come coach the D line? I’ll have Kelly move practice to the morning, we’ll get you a bed for the afternoon naps and free buffet coupons for early bird at Golden Corral. You’ll be home and in bed by 6:00 everyday.

Pete: I’m in!

I doubt it went like that. If anything it was probably like BK saying hey Scott, do you have Pete Jenkins number? I wanted to run something by him. Or hey BK, I have Pete's number if you need it. DL hasn't been looking too good.

BK is fully aware of Pete Jenkins. They probably see each other around town all of the time. Hell Pete might have called BK.

Really just providing for reference, I am not sure a lot of the younger folks realize that his connection predates O or the golden age of LSU football.

You can’t even ask him to coach at all

Which is why so many top tier schools brought him in during the Spring. Because he can no longer coach.

Idiots.

They went to old folks home before dinner at 3:30 and asked Pete if he wanted to go for a ride. After nap, it was decided he could go.

The surprising thing is he took the advice of whomever made the rec.

Why? Of all the things Kelly is known for, staying pat with staff underperforming isn’t one of them.

If ever a man was built to coach, it's Pete Jenkins. He is an amazing d-line coach...he's also someone who will have the ear of House, making suggestions on schemes and personnel.

Either Woodward called Pete or Pete called Woody one of the 2.

Go watch old man get around and tell me he will have any impact on actually coaching.

Telling someone else how to tell someone else how to do a drill isn’t going to do shite. Sorry to burst that bubble.

Pete Jenkins isn’t a highly-sought and highly-compensated consultant at 82 years old because he can run a good drill. GA’s can run a good drill.

Pete’s contact info is on every D1 and NFL head coach’s phone because—and this may shock you—sometimes coaches don’t always know how to fix problems. Just like the real world.
