The Saucer has a ventilation issue, but other than that it's great. Not a great place to watch sports, but the food is great and the beer selection is impressive. I've got two plates, but downtown has much more to offer these days, so don't be afraid to explore.

Article in Houston Biz Journal about the JW stated that it is scheduled to open Aug 15. But they may be behind schedule.

I walked by yesterday, and there is not a single wall up in the first three floors. Based on the speed of construction downtown and the assumption that the upper floors aren't complete either, I don't see August 15 happening.

there's going to be rail construction. It's been going on for two years, and I see no end in sight.

Is that just slowing down or are they not even running from downtown?

Rail from Downtown to Reliant is not an issue. Construction is not hampering usage.

How long do you think it is going to take to get to Reliant from Downtown/Square Stn?

Then back after the game?

FWIW - My cousin just booked a room at the Magnolia with free wi-fi, free buffet breakfast, free happy hour drinks from 6-7 and he said his room was like $150/night.

The rail construction is on a new line that runs perpendicular to the line heading to reliant, so it shouldn't be an issue.

What about the Houston Marriot at the Medical Center? Pretty decent?

My group is staying here. I know nothing of the place so I hope it's decent. Guy who booked it seems to think it's a good location. We're mid-20's.

It's a good location for the stadium and rail, but a bad location for bars and restaurants. Stay downtown and take an Uber to Midtown/Washington for your age group.

Well we are already booked and got a good discount through someone we know in hotel management. Gonna have to make it work.

You can just hop on the rail and head downtown. You'll be able to make it work.

Nice! Used to go there every Wednesday for years, but that was when I was single and had no kids. This is where I really learned to love beer in all of its varieties (okay, not the PBR, but nearly all others).

Both of my plates are dedicated to LSU. My first had my name and "Geaux Tigers" on the outside and in the middle it said: "The sun has found its home in the western sky, and it is now Saturday night in Death Valley." I kinda wish that one was still up.

I am debating between the Doubletree by the Galleria and the Hilton Americas downtown. I practically live in the Doubletree and know the area, but may try a change.

I had my room booked at crowne plaza near reliant but just switched to the Hyatt regency. $109/night if you show them tickets to the Astros game which we had planned on anyway and place looks very nice.

We booked at the Hilton America's. ~$140 per night. It's a few blocks from MMP. Heard Hotel ZaZa was the place if you are a strapping young buck but I'm married and divorce is too expensive...
