What really lost the game is the absolutely pathetic offensive approach through the first 5 innings. How many times can you present an obvious first pitch take and go down 0-1 only to swing at the second pitch low and inside slider to go 0-2. Every at bat looked the same yet we continued with he "don't swing at the first pitch" strategy! You could tell our hitters wanted to swing but were clearly given dugout instructions to take! Not to mention we knew it was a generous umpire! Bad strategy is one thing in baseball. Too stubborn to make adjustments however is unacceptable! Fire the hitting coach. We were completely out coached tonite. What a shame!

We swung at an embarrassing number of balls. Didn't make the pitcher work at all.

Swinging for the fences with the wind blowing in? No. Just get on base.

Also, starting Coomes over Slaughter was a mistake. That said, that's really a "hindsight" thing. Coomes had been very good defensively prior to this game.

We're an aggressive team at the plate and on the basepaths. That's just how we play. It was that way under Cannizaro and its continued under Gibbs.

Swinging at bad pitches has been happening all season. We do not have a good philosophy at the plate. We need a better hitting coach IMHO.

The errors made us play from behind. It spun us out. The batting approach looked to be haphazard with no clear plan. The whole damn game for us just looked out of sync. Never got into any rhythm and blew the momentum when it shifted with another mind boggling base blunder. Just one of those games but at the worst possible moment. Florida just played smart, had some good fortune, made some key plays, got some crucial hits, etc. its a fine line between a win and a loss, all of it added up to what we got tonight. Proud of the tigers. Wish it was different.

Well clearly a few didn't listen. There were quite a few first pitch swinging outs

Just saying that the best way to not strikeout is to not get two strikes in the first place. Tyson was lobbing 1st pitch strikes in like it was a 3-0 count. And our hitters were chompin at the bit looking to the dugout like "why did you make me take that pitch?!" Playing not to lose rather than playing to win.

The idea was likely to up the pitch count. Dyson was known to have great stuff but suspected to not be very durable. If he came out hitting his spots, our best shot was to get his pitch count up. Swinging at first pitches only works if your team can find some holes which unfortunately wasn't the case on the ones we did.

As it was, it wasn't until O'Sullivan pulled Dyson that we had any success at the plate. At that point, we still had enough innings to actually do something. The only way to work the count is to take the first pitch. If we had, we may have had some success and found some holes, or Dyson might have shut us down for a couple more innings. As always, it's easier to judge after the fact.

They are a very aggressive team offensively and have been for several years now. It's unfortunate that they can't have a situational approach offensively and be more patient if needed. Their aggressiveness on the bases and at the plate has cost them at times throughout the season.

Tonight with Deichmann in the 8th with runners on the corners and 1 out. I'm not sure if CPM had the hit and run on or not but Deichmann needed a pitch he could drive in the outfield for at least a sac fly. Instead, he swings at a first pitch low in the zone for a ground ball and the 1st baseman throws out Kramer at the plate. Either CPM or Deichmann was too aggressive and should have been more patient. He's the best power hitter and driving a ball in the outfield is what was desperately needed.

Maybe our guys were too focused on what hairstyle to get instead of winning championships.

That's either a joke that just didn't land, or you are a complete jackwagon

Ok. Just saying I don't remember Louis Coleman making headlines about his hairstyle when he was preparing to play Texas in the championship.

Did Zach Watson take a first pitch strike in every single at bat in the 2 games?

I sometimes wonder what game you people actually watch. Their starter had two strikeouts and a low pitch count. Taking too many pitches was not a problem and never has been. Our problem is usually the exact opposite of what you describe. Maybe it's a different game if we get him up near 70 pitches in the 4th or 5th instead of the 7th.

Not going to lie, if the wind isnt blowing in last night that game couldve been vastly different. The park played circa 2012 and we all know our teams arent built for that. Im not blaming the loss on the wind, but had it not been blowing in the game takes a totally different feel to it.
