Hmm.. Should this be revisited: What's the teams single season rushing yards record?

Can we break it this year? Should be a good oline with possibly the best group of backs we've had at one time

He was asking total team yards, and not the individual record.

1977 - 3352 yards, 279 ypg
1976 - 3041 yards, 276 ypg
2007 - 2998 yards, 214 ypg
2014 - 2919 yards, 224 ypg
2011 - 2836 yards, 202 ypg
1997 - 2823 yards, 256 ypg

For reference.. passing yardage
1977 - 85/198 1190 yards
1976 - 72/177 931 yards
2007 - 256/442 3154 yards
2014 - 138/276 2118 yards
2011 - 173/279 2135 yards
1997 - 137/225 1694 yards

To answer the OP, I pray that we don't break it unless we play 14-15 games. Otherwise, it suggest our passing game is still just absolutely dreadful.

I'll be nice....the record is 1,686 by Alexander in an 11 game season(153/game)...bowls were not included in the stats back then(they are now). If we get a chance to play 14 or 15 games...LF would need to average 112-120 yds/game to eclipse that mark.

I say the answer is no. Barring injury, I think LF gets 1300+ and Guice/Williams both go over 500.

Sorry I didn't read the OP correctly...the answer is still no unless we play 15 games...that would be 206/game

Might want to check that 1997 stat. Hard to produce over 6,000 yards in a season lol

Your '97 stats are off...2823 for 256/game.

I kind of see it the other way around. No way we break single season record without a decent passing threat. 8 in the box against SEC defense would slow us down over the course of the season.

Last year was actually the best rushing attack of the Les Miles era.. where we ran the ball 50+ times a game on the back end of the season. The only way we break the single season record with a decent passing threat is if we improve enough in that facet of the game to make the CFB NC game.

In which case, we should shatter it having played 15 games.

In the amount of time you spent creating this thread you could have typed this into your google box and gotten an answer. Why do people keep starting threads where they ask stuff like this?

It isn't a bad thing that people are excited over football this time of year at LSU or anywhere else. Some people just want to participate instead of producing stats which tale time.

Appreciate guys like Chilgel that do the work and give it to the rest of us.

Or it means that we're up big early in games and just taking the air out of the clock

If we eclipsed 280 yards per game rushing it's probably because we're smothering people

Not sure if it was the best... But it was the only way we were able to move the ball so those stats are skewed...2007 IMO was the best of the Miles era... We had a decent passing game that year....

Or maybe because our running game is so nearly unstoppable and we don't need to pass much.

You see, sometimes there really IS a bright side to things. Try it. You might like it.
