People seem to be obsessed with his years at Ole Miss but, they fail to mention that nobody has been successful at that dump for more than a season or two. Those who have, cheated their asses off. I don't think that is a fair measurement of his coaching abilities.

David Cutcliffe was at Ole Miss immediately before Orgeron. He went 44-29 in 6 seasons. Houston Nutt immediately followed him and went 24-26 in four seasons. Orgeron was only 10-25.

While Ole Miss is not expected to win championships, they do expect to be an above .500 school. Orgeron was the only coach of the 2000s who couldn't even come close for them.

Chicken gets it!

People refuse to acknowledge this, they'd rather complain about not getting the offensive genius who's team managed to score 16 points against the juggernaut that is SMU.

He, like O, is completely reliant on solid coordinators. He wasn't great in his interim year nor his first full season. They started to turn the corner in his third full season when he hired Chad Morris as OC. The next year he brought on Brent Venables as DC and they have remained a top team.

O has a top shelf DC in Aranda. If he can land a top notch OC, then it is ENTIRELY possible that LSU could compete for a national title under him. The problem is unlike Saban and Meyer, O HAS to hit big on his coordinators. Saban, Meyer (Belicheck in the NFL) are the best because they can absorb assistant turnover and keep on winning at a high level.

The biggest question about O is do top coordinators want to work with him? He looks like he's going to keep Aranda and we obviously have the rumors about Kiffin. Those guys aren't going to be at LSU forever (if at all in Kiffin's case), so can he reload after they leave?

Not that I'm sticking up for O, but if you look at Nutt's tenure, he rode off the coattails of O's recruiting there then fell off. O did absolutely fail at Ole Miss, but I don't think you can call Nutt more successful, just lucky to have the guys he had when he got there.

Refuse to acknowledge that there's like a 1/1000 chance that we hired the next Dabo? I'll acknowledge that

Except Dabo had never crashed and burned anywhere.

So it is better to not have any head coaching experience (in the SEC, too)? How bad would the melt be is LSU hired a WR coach with no head coaching experience or even coordinator experience? All of yall would be killing LSU if they did that. You're missing the point here...

I absolutely agree with this, but he was still able to win at Ole Miss where Orgeron failed the whole time.

I almost mentioned Cutcliffe in my post. Eli Manning was amazing at OM. If I recall, Cutcliffe was fired after having some heart issues.

Houston Nutt cheated his tail off and was also fired.

Currently, Hugh Freeze is failing.

That program is unsustainable for every coach who goes there. I just think that a very young and inexperienced Coach O, was doomed to fail there. That doesn't translate to him failing at LSU.

haha...I guess I have some compassion in me...I am no insider, but my guess is that Joe's is given direction from higher ups and is being scapegoated by a part of the fan base...

Hugh Freeze is 39-25 at Ole Miss and almost at .500 is SEC games. He could coach there another 15 years at this rate assuming he wins 2/3 against MSU the whole time.

The expectations are just different at Ole Miss than they have been at LSU, although I suspect that will change over the next couple of years.

Every time I get pissed off about the hire, I think of what Dabo has done. The question is, can he bring in his "Chad Morris"? He already has his "Brent Venables" in Aranda
