I'm 66 years old and a lifelong LSU fan. The two LSU athletes that made the biggest impression on me the first time I got to watch them live were Cecile Collins and Chris Jackson. They were just so different from anyone I had ever seen in an LSU uniform and they left a lasting impression. I loved this documentary and am glad to know that Collins story is one of redemption. Well done to the makers of this film.

Amazing football player, but I'm sorry, I just don't buy it. It's not like he stole things to fund a drug habit and kicked the drug habit. His crimes are much more sinister in nature.

He's one of the most overrated players in the history of LSU football. Not because he didn't have two great games. But because ALL he had was two great games. Could Collins have been one of the greatest RBs to ever play at LSU? Maybe. But we'll never know largely because of his own doing. The guy got kicked off of two college football teams and STILL got drafted...before ultimately being out of the NFL because he was in jail. And it wasn't as if he just made one really bad mistake. It was a string of criminal activity that eventually landed him in jail for 12 years.

As discussed in a prior thread, LSU essentially removed Derrius Guice from its history. And he's never been convicted of a crime. Guice had 10x the career at LSU that Collins had.

Hopefully Collins is a changed many and his criminal ways are behind him. But to "celebrate" him is pathetic.

It's was a great documentary, so glad he is doing great..

I went back to Leesville for my 40th graduation reunion in 1996 and went to the game that night. Cecil Collins was just an unstoppable force and came away impressed greatly. When he declared for LSU I was super excited.

Then came the avalanche of bad news about his character. Then I retired and moved back to Leesville in 1999. Began teaching math in 2003 and found out a lot about Cecil's history at LHS. I am sad to say that LHS may have been a little to easy on him during his days there. Seems like he was 'untouchable' and that disappoints me greatly and I had refrained from extolling his excellence after learning that.

This documentary casts and good light on his status today. It appears he has adjusted himself to be a good citizen. While we can still give him no slack for his sins of the past - he has paid for them in this world to the full extent that our laws allow. I am now content to be happy for his conversion and hope nothing but the absolute best for him for the rest of his life.

I suspect we all have 'skeletons' in our closets that we pray do not become public - and I for one am perfectly happy to see one more soul apparently on the right road.

"The Diesel" is all a past horror. Cecil Collins is a new man.

Thank God for that! I am happy for him.
