How do you not know about a third out being recorded before the UGA run scoring.....and then arguing with Hanagriff about it when you have no idea??
You're joking, right? He argued that one as well?! Damn, I'm glad I was watching and not listening.

He was doing a LSU Basketball ball game one time and when the ref. made the traveling call(The motion of his hands). John said, "Illegal Procedure."

This is so true, but I love Hawthorne! I kinda just laugh at his mistakes. I have a Uncle who hates him so to each his own!

Everyone with any baseball knowledge of the rules knows that it is the location of the ball (not the fielder) at the time the ball is touched that determines whether the ball is foul or fair.
It's one of the few times Hannagriff tried to be gracious. Most of the time, those two go at each others' throats. Every game turns into a constant pissing match between those two guys.

Hawthorne has a great radio voice......To add to the initial list
The ground ball to Didier that was ruled an error......The ball was hit hard and it popped up and hit Didier in the chest, Hawthorne thought it should be a hit and he and Hanagriff argued about it. Hawthorne insisted it was too hard a play to make and Hanagriff said simply(and sounding exasperated)..."not if Didier lifts his glove up to catch it." It was actually funny to hear Hanagriff dismiss Hawthorne's argument like that.

I remember listening to John Ferguson when he was getting old and, as much as I hated to admit it back then, I knew when it was time for him to move on.
Yeah, kinda like Cholly Mac, time has been kind to John Ferguson's legacy.
I first started listening to him in 1973 and he probably did LSU games for at least another decade after that.
I can remember my brother and I as kids laughing at some of the un-intentionally funny stuff he'd say. Great voice though. Fond memories. He used to do the SEC Basketball game of the week with Joe Dean too back in the day.
He did a one year stint of play-by-play with the Saints in the early 90's I think it was. It was truly painful and sad to listen to.

I'm still sticking with Canevari as Jim's successor.

I have always been a big fan of Hawthorne but it really was pissing me off listening to him argue with Hanagriff about the ball to Dean being fair or foul. I was just like Hawthorne please just shutup your making an arse of yourself.....He is getting worse with his perception of where balls are hit as well..."swung on and thats hit well to left field. left fielder going back and looking up and makes the catch on the track."...only when watching it on tv the left fielder was nowhere near the track...

He's fricking terrible. Hannagirff please!!!

Or, "Watkins draws a bead on it..........and watches it go over the fence for a homerun."
Notice how many times when JH is on the radio he says, "Will you look at that!?!"
Uh...no, Jim. I can't look at that. I'm listening on the radio.....

Canevari did a little color 2 or 3 seasons ago. The ABSOLUTE WORST/MONOTONE shite I've ever heard. Sincerely made listening to Jim at his worst/drunkest a pleasure.

Ford should not be allowed anywhere around LSU broadcasts. HE IS HORRIBLE. Has absolutely no in depth knowledge of Footbal and Basketball, just reads stat sheets and score updates. Heard him interview one of the coaches before gametime - was totally embarrased for the coach having to deal with that douche.

Canevari might not have a great radio voice, but the dude knew what he was talking about, calling hit and runs and such before they happened.
I agree with the OP on the subject, but I don' blame Hawthorne if he said he didn't like facing lefty pitchers as a right handed batter. There are lots of right handed hitters that don't like facing lefty pitchers, myself included when I was younger.

Even worse than making mistakes and not knowing anything about the game is the fact that he basically complains about having to be there so long. I'm sure he had a great time last night with the late start and long game.
Also, he and Hanagriff both do a poor job of describing what kind of pitch was thrown. Saying it was right down the middle when it was actually on the corner, saying it was a fastball when it was actually an offspeed pitch, etc. I never listen to them while I'm at the game but you notice a lot when watching on Geauxzone.
And last but not least a few weeks ago they were both wondering/complaining about an umpire walking the ball out to the pitcher after a foul tip instead of throwing it. They went on and on about it, but they didn't realize he was doing it out of common courtesy because the catcher got hit in the nuts.

Im just waiting for his patented put it in the book remark... "swung on. long fly ball to left field you can write it down and put it in the book. wait! shite he caught that? well look at that!"

I agree with his right handed hitter in high school wanting to see a right handed pitcher in high school because there are very few lefties. He wasn't saying that it did not make sense now. He said when he played he would rather bat agains a righty. When I was in high school our my senior year our entire lineup was righties. We did not face one left handed pitcher the entire regular season. Then in the state championship series (best of 3) the team we faced threw two lefties against us and we maybe had 5 hits in two games and they beat us 3-0 and 2-0. Why? Because we had never seen a curve ball that broke into us and not away. Also, the ball hid to Dean was fair. Ump missed that one. I
