Was there a point made here? How does that make Orgeron look good?

I'm duly impressed so far too.

But I'm a results orientated guy, hence I wanted CLM gone and not impressed enough with CEO... yet.

I am hopeful. Everybody knows LSU is loaded. The last guy fricked that up. At the very least I'm hoping CEO corrects that!

Because he took over mid season and went 6-2. That's pretty impressive in the middle of season. Usc run him off. They are 1-3 right now and fixing to be looking for a coach once again.

and no other school with an open HC spot came after him, at least none that I'm aware of.

Look, Coach O is a great asset for our staff, but we can't hand him the keys permanently. Just too risky. We need a proven commodity.

Coach O got progressively worse at Ole Miss even as he improved the talent level.

2007 was his third year and by far the worst of his tenure. That is a fricking scary trend.

quote:

In 2007, Ole Miss was last in the SEC in scoring offense, turnover margin, rushing offense, rushing defense, punt returns, opponent first downs, red-zone offense, opponent third-down conversions, field goal percentage, time of possession and kickoff coverage.

The 2007 season was a historic one for Ole Miss. The Rebels went winless in the SEC for the first time since 1982 – 25 years. The Rebels, under Orgeron, ended the season at 3–9 (0–8 in SEC play).

The 2007 season culminated with the firing of Orgeron on November 24, 2007.

So was Les! What did that get us? 30 min on field practices? Not buying just yet. O could be the guy, but I'm not believing it till I see it. Still holding out for a big name.

One step at a time, he seems to be doing right so far.

I'm glad he was here at the ready and wish him the best.

That seems to be the glaring difference this time around.

He knows what he doesn't know.

He definitely wants this job more than any other candidate. If the results are good (6-2 or better with a 10+ point win over to Alabama) he will have earned the job.

I'm saying, why didn't USC want him? And why didn't anyone else even give him so much as an interview when he was clamoring for a HC gig after his resignation from USC?

I think these are good questions.

they wanted someone more polished so they hired an alcoholic they had to fire 2 years later and might fire his replacement this year. If you use USC as a bellwether on quality head coaching hires you're gonna have a bad time.

Ok, why was he sitting at home after leaving USC when he admitted wanting a HC gig?

The fact that he is as good a recruiter as he is and is as popular with players as he is really makes it even weirder that no middling school has given him a job yet.

EDIT: Just read that UNLV had a phone interview with him in 2014, that's as far as it went.

Looks like they chose poorly, then, didn't they. They've been through, what, six coaches in the last couple years? Orgeron would likely still be there.

And Ole Miss was, what? TEN YEARS AGO? Les was a damn sight better coach ten years ago, too. Things happen, hopefully people learn. It appears that Coach Orgeron has.

I'm just telling you what happened at USC - everything else we both are guessing on. i'm taking a wait and see attitude on O and not totally writing him off as a viable candidate.

If he (hypothetically) goes 7-1 and beats bama by 10+ points you would say thanks but no thanks?

I like what i've seen so far. he has a vision for what he wants and is executing it. He was obviously prepared for this to happen.

Probably because he wouldn't have been able to turn things around at USC the way he did had he not learned from his mistakes...remember, he went to HC at Ole Miss not from being a coordinator...but a line coach.....no real management experience.
