Coach O got progressively worse at Ole Miss even as he improved the talent level.

2007 was his third year and by far the worst of his tenure. That is a fricking scary trend.

correct.

And I'm not understanding the support for O as permanent HC. Is it because he's from La? Because he has a cajun accent? What is it?

I mean yes, he's a great recruiter and seems to be a very good coach. But is the Rant really advocating turning the program over to a guy who was 3-21 in the SEC during his only permanent HC gig?

Really?

Look, Coach O might make a great head coach. But it's too risky right now. If he wants to be a head coach, go get a HC job at a smaller school, kick arse, and then the big boys will come calling.

Just like Urban Meyer. Just like Steve Spurrier. Just like Nick Saban. Just like Tom Herman.

i'm advocating seeing what he does between now and the end of the season and evaluate his performance accordingly.

If he were to (hypothetically) go 7 - 1 and beat Bama by 10+ points you would say thanks but no thanks O - i'd rather have Larry Fedora because he has been a successful head coach?

I'm saying, why didn't USC want him?
They did want him, just not as HC. And because of that, he didn't want anything to do with them.

And why didn't anyone else even give him so much as an interview when he was clamoring for a HC gig after his resignation from USC?
I think 2014 was abnormally quiet as far as coaching changes, wasn't it? Also I believe he enjoyed taking a year off and wasn't really putting himself out there.

Orgeron only had one good win against a less talented Stanford team. Every other win was against the bottom feeders of the pac 12

I'd be happy if we beat every less talented team.

I don't get this... how is it risky? What's the worst that can happen? We continue playing mediocre football for a few years, and he leaves the cupboard stocked for the next guy?

How do you know Herman won't be a flop like Rich Rod? And not every good coach did it that way. Look at one of this board's top picks, Jimbo. FSU is his first HC job.

There is no formula, some coaches are just a good fit for certain programs.

I have liked him since a Black Bears' friend told me that at his first meeting with powerful..snobby.....boosters he ripped off his shirt, got down in a 3 point stance, and challenged any/all comers. Friend said that the faces on the boosters were indescribable.

Why is everyone so excited about Ole Miss' retread coach? If we fired Miles for this guy, I give up... It is like everyone that hated Miles could careless who is the coach, just as long as it is not Miles.

This is pretty much exactly the sentiment, myself included.

I am super excited they made a move instead of dragging it on for another 9 weeks. Fresh air is fresh air, and unless we run the table our season is over aside from bowl games. If coach O can make a run I don't see the problem with reviewing options.

Well that is what you look for in a person you want to hire to run a multi-million dollar operation, a Chris Farley personality.

Agreed!

The Cajun Coach?

The dude a great speaker...

If you listen to Tom Herman do a press conference, you will be disappointed.

But clearly the guy can coach offense...and lead a program

Hopefully LSU lands a great coach...

What's interesting me is this.

Saban always talks about not being too emotional, to have mental toughness ..."stay even"

I hear BEBE talk alot about how emotion is key to playing football at a high level, but what goes up come down...

hard to get a team jacked every week

so there is a difference I see or hear...

BEBE is impressive, let's see what happens

I wouldn't say I "hated" Miles, but honestly I would take a high school coach on gameday over Miles. The dude just laid egg after egg, and it was painful to watch.

Everyone likes to win, sure, but first and foremost football should be entertaining and fun to watch. I want to see players playing with effort and pride, not frustration. I have little doubt O will deliver on that.

Did he not do this at ole miss?

Don't know. However, he said in his initial press conference that he learned from his mistakes in his previous HC position at OM. He stated that he tried to do everything and coach every position. Now, he's going to let his coaches coach and hold them accountable. This is the major difference.

Saban says not to get emotional and stay even? That is hilarious. Do you watch him on the sidelines during a game? Even if he is dogstomping his opponent, he looks like he has the worst case of constipation in the history of mankind, and he screams until his face is beet red and his neck veins are bulging.

7-1 with a 10+ victory over Bama?

Lol....ok.

And is this board seriously making comparisons between Orgeron and fricken Little Nicky?! I mean...c'mon now.

Got people on here that would rather have Orgeron or T-Bob over a proven coach like Herman. SMH.

That seems to be the glaring difference this time around.

Ok, why was he sitting at home after leaving USC when he admitted wanting a HC gig?

The fact that he is as good a recruiter as he is and is as popular with players as he is really makes it even weirder that no middling school has given him a job yet.

EDIT: Just read that UNLV had a phone interview with him in 2014, that's as far as it went.

People in the rest of the country think we're stupid when they hear us talk. Most of the time they are right but there are some really smart people from Louisiana. They are mostly in positions of power fricking us over right now. Never said you could be smart and moral.
