Would guess yes. Have no f'ing clue as to that. Why would it matter? Teams have won national titles and never played games ranked as the #1 team.

I think we got as high as #2 in '81 but that's it, though. I could be wrong and I don't feel like digging into it right now.

ETA I did look it up and we were ranked #2 in the February 24, 1981 AP Poll.

I doubt it.

LSU was #2 in 1981. Probably the best shot.

They finished 2006 as #3 and they played a game at #6 the following season.

We we're #1 to start season with Shaw and Stanley Roberts and Chris Jax and those guys, right?

I believe they played in the 1981 NCAA tourney as a # 1 seed if that is the question.

LSU basketball has never been ranked #1 by the wire service polls at any time during any season nor during the NCAA tournament.

Without looking it up I believe LSU started #2 in the pre-season AP poll behind UNLV.

Were there polls in 1935(I think that's the year) when LSU won their basketball national title? Maybe then?

I think I remember LSU's BB team ranked no. 1 by The Sporting News in 1990 (Shaq's FR year). I don't recall if AP ever ranked them no. 1.

1981 was the last team to lose a Final Four Consolation Game(against Virginia with Ralph Sampson)

Best game I ever attended (wasnt old enough for the good days) was the UCONN game the year after final four run. Both teams were top 10 I believe. PMAC was packed and they handed out shirts.
Was a great game and then it turned out both teams sucked

Preseason #2 1989-1990. However, we quickly stumbled by losing the 2nd game of the season to (I believe) an unranked Kansas team.

I don't think so. The highest I remember was #2 playing Kansas in the second or third game of the 1989-90 season. We might have been ranked #1 at some point in the 1980-81 season, though. I think we were 27-1 going into the final regular season game at Kentucky.

I think we did finish #1 in the wire service polls (or one of them at least) in 1935, though. That was before the NCAA tournament and is the basis for our one claimed national championship in basketball.

Would say the year with Chris Jackson, Shaq and Stanley but I think they were number 2 behind UNLV.

Preseason NIT. Would have gone to MSG next game. 2 years after their Danny Manning NC. They were very anonymous, were in probation Hell, and it was Roy Williams' second game if I remember correctly.

I was there. It was very disappointing.

Wasn't Arizona ranked #1 once when LSU played them?
