No one mentioned Curtis Leskanic. That's a real shame.

Jamie Howard was hitting ~93 at STM as a SR.
that is really interesting because Jamie did not pitch his senior year. He was in CF when STM won the state title in 1992. LSU football coaches did not want him hurting his arm

Did he not throw in the low 90's in HS? Did the Braves draft him as an outfielder or pitcher? That was a long time ago so I called my sister and asked. He was actually a Jr and was dating one of her friends who was a Sr. I was mistaken when I said he got drafted a few months later...it was the following year. That had nothing to do with the point that I made about throwing 90's ~30 years ago being a bigger deal than it is today.

that was a good time

Jamie in 92, Joey fontenot in 95 and gilbert meche in 96

All threw 92+. Meche still best high school arm I've ever seen throwing 95 in high school. Joey and gil both went in first round out of acadiana high

Jamie in 92,

Now that I got the timeline straight, it was a real good time. I had just moved to ATL when they drafted him. That was the year that ATL went worst to first and Buckhead was rocking.

I remember Fontenot and Meche but never followed them in pro BB. I know that Meche made it up. What happened to Fontenot?

Howard definitely pitched his Sr year. He started the semifinals game vs AHHS at STM.

Yeah that is the guy I was thinking of. He threw gas. If I remember right, he started off with a shitload of saves early in the season before teams realized that the heater was all he had and not much movement.

Ranaudo was around 95 consistently,

He was consistently below 95. That's one his biggest issues. Big arse dude who just doesn't have the relative arm strength.

Laxton was more of a knuckle baller. I remember Skip said after the 93 title game. We saw Wichita State have trouble with the knuckle ball so we gave it to Laxton.
