his defense improved every year until his last, when it was ranked third in the NFL. Brisket Brick couldn't dream of those results

I was told stats from back then are irrelevant? Otherwise, Stoops is your guy.

You're learning lol. Seriously, who gives a shite what Haley did at Baylor, 13 years ago, when they were a joke program.

His DL's have been underwhelming, but that doesn't mean he won't be a solid DC. Plus, if promoting him means O is brought in it could be worth it.

Sure, but wouldn't you prefer a DC that has proven success as a DC?

Brick isn't my top choice, but it's unfair to use stats that are 13 years old.

Shoop is my #1 choice if you don't consider Ed O in your decision
CP is my #2 but becomes my #1 with Ed O
I think Venables is a long shot and won't come here.
Than brick is my #3 mainly because he is already on staff and it leaves open the door for Ed O to come in. I don't think Ed O comes in if Hale doesn't leave. This situation would let Ed O come in
Steele would be next but this would be a horrible hire.
Than anyone else than Stoops
than stoops.

Dang. That's a lot of years and posts to put on the line for a purposely misleading subject line. Isn't that one of the things the FAQ's frown upon?

shoop's defense finished top 25 every year he was at vanderbilt. that is insane.

cp wasn't great at cal but he didn't have a lot to work with. he also wasn't a complete disaster like brick was at baylor.

I don't really care about 13 year old stats my point was LSU is a big job, someone with proven success as a DC should be a prerequisite.

he did?

2008 his YPG defense was 19th. Scoring 28th,
2007 16th ypg 29th scoring.
2006 29th YGP :yak: same with scoring

Someone posted all of this in detail.

But his defense stayed about the same while he was at Arizona while the offense went from one of the worst to one of the best in the NFL.

OFfense is what carried the cardinals to the championship in 2008. He left Arizona the same year they made the Superbowl. If he was so good in the NFL why was he let go the same year he went to the super bowl?

Also at cal he turned around that defense but they got pretty bad before he was fired from Cal.

I know I'm posting all of this and it makes me sound like I don't like the guy. I think CP is #1 or #2 for best hires and I think he would have put a good defense on the field. But many people anointed him as a homerun hire. The main reason I liked him was because of his connection to ed O.

Don't get me wrong I think Shoop would be a home run hire.

But someone made and argument that Shoop is a proven DC. I'm not convinced he is, but based on what he did in one year at Penn State, I would love him as our Defensive Coordinator.

oh, someone dropped the line earlier his defense finished third. I should have looked that one up first.

either way, we can't have Brick leading the charge on defense

Something else, so far every time they have mentioned LSU is talking to X. We seem to assume X is going to be our guy. It happened with stoops, it happened with CP and now it is happening with Brick.

I don't think anyone knows anything right now. I think it is very reasonable that brick is being considered for the DC right now. He was apparently Chavis understudy so to speak, and would bring in a similar style for our defense. It wouldn't really hurt recruiting because Chavis didn't really do much, plus if it could also bring in Coach O.

No matter who the DC is, if it means we bring in Ed O than I think it is a plus, because we bring in a very good recruiter in a huge year in recruiting. If my memory is correct the 2016 could be a great class like the 2014 class was.
