According to the eye test, Michigan deserved a rematch in 2006.

And Okie deserved the shot in 2011.

So we would have been considered the best team ever if we could have dodged playing the obviously better team that season in the championship game?

I love millennial logic.

I see your point, but Alabama was not "obviously" the better team until they dismantled LSU in the championship meeting. It was more of the toss up with Oklahoma State until then.

Hello.... But to be fair, Bama was the 2nd best team in college football in 2011... Did they deserve a 2nd chance??? NO... AND I am not so sure LSU was a LOCK to beat Okie St. It would have been the BEST offense they would have played all year....

Exactly. The season has to matter. The games must mean something. The best team doesn't always win. That's the way it goes. Otherwise, let's just go by recruiting rankings and NFL draft projections and ignore game results altogether.

We were not the best team that year. This narrative needs to end. If Bama doesn't miss 55 field goals in the "game of the century" we lose - they outplayed us.

Then absolutely destroyed us on 1/9/12.

Yes, easily. Game planning is a bitch.

The season does/did matter, in the BCS era it was designed to identify 1 & 2 and match them up. It was a system agnostic to w/l, conference titles, and rematches. Alabama deserved to be in the game THAT season as much as a 2 loss LSU backdoor'd into the game for Miles' championship. They were both the 2nd rated team in the computer formulas and human hybrid point system.

What's unfair about how that year worked is not the fact LSU had to play Alabama twice, but the scenario where a team gets more time off then a conference championship game winner. They still haven't exactly figured that out with the big 12 and Notre Dame and the new system either.

We were the best team.
Had Williams not stepped out of bounds we would have beaten bama 13-6. The better team won. OK state should have played us in the NC. The regular season showcased we were the best team and Alabama lost.

teams lost. We didn't backdoor anywhere. We were the best opponent to face ohio state.

Just like alabama lost and shouldn't have been in the 2011 NC

Alabama was clearly not the number two team in the computer poll. The only reason they were in was the bias of the human polls. LOL

If LSU lost to Alabama at Alabama in 2011 they would have not gotten the rematch. If can finally understand it then you understand why the whole process was a disgrace. Again it also is hard to judge the second game due to the bs process and the fact Alabama was given a rematch. The whole thing set up for a let down as LSU was playing a game for a NC that their schedule clearly indicated they had already earned.

Where were these FG attempted from on the field? The way you make it sound Alabama was missing from extra point distances.

Alabama couldn't even win their division that year. Talking heads and ESPN influenced lemming voters to allow them the mother of all backdoor entries.

Just because they were one of the two best that year doesn't mean they deserved to be there. Plenty of college teams over the years that were the strongest didn't play for a championship.

And Okie state would have had they not lost. Why do you think we were happy they lost? We had zero shot of getting in without them losing.

BUT they did lose, after we did, to a 5...FIVE touchdown underdog. Yes, they won a conference championship but did not play a conference championship game. I think that would have put them in had they played one but they didn't, they lost to a nobody, we kept winning. Alabama getting in was not a travesty. Had they jumped Bama with Okie light after they lost to a literal nobody would have been the bigger travesty. The best teams wouldn't have played then.
Your anger shouldn't be at Bama. You need to send that to the clown Mike frickin Gundy for blowing a gimme game that no way in hell would Bama have lost.

What a load of garbage. You Sabanistas never stop.Alabama missed most if those field goals because the never should have been attempted.Poor coaching.

Sure,we were waxed on 1/9.But only a Sabanistas lover posing as an LSU fan would say we were "lucky" in the regular season game.

That's what's aggravating about the rematch. If Alabama had beaten us 9-6 in OT and everything stays the same, you know good and well Oklahoma State would have gone to the title game.
