That's the thing. At what point during that time were you going take Miles out?
After 2009?
2012?

LSU would have the top 1 or 2 picks from any available coaches on the market.
well i'd rather not compete with USC
also lots of other BCS programs are already out there talking with agents and interviewing guys. we'd be well behind the ball
the big elephant in the room next year would be Texas, but i think Strong and that program make big strides next year

Say we win out and face North Carolina in the chicken bowl. We have a 10-2 season. Next year is the same, or 10-3.
I don't think you get much, if any, pity from 24 hour sports reporting finishing with a Top 10 record and firing your coach.

that 2008-2010 stretch was pretty ugly
and yeah 2011 was great but it's not like the greatness was due to miles and his staff's coaching. i'd imagine if we had hired a competent coach who hired a competent staff we'd have similar results. that D was STAAAAAAAAAAACKED regardless of the DC

way too much money on that contract and it would cause too much disruption with loyal assistants...
You know a contract can be altered-if not voided-based on clauses within the contract. I am well aware the derision that "sources," are received with here. But if we wanted to make the change, I believe that we could do so. Easily. With little to no concern over the financial disincentives.
Regarding the loyal assistants, Orgeron will be interviewed for the DC gig and Wilson won't go anywhere unless Hudspeth leaves UL-L (could definitely happen and he would be looked at as a favorite to get a serious interview). If that happens, nothing would keep him here either way.
Raymond's recruiting and ins at IMG are important. Agree with you there. But beyond that, we are talking at retaining Wilson and Orgeron at most. Not a lot to that.

How many years do you give the new guy to suck?
Posted on 11/15/15 at 10:14 am to SlowFlowPro
Biggest issue with Miles is the make other teams adjust to us even if they are better than us philosophy. I knew Steele was a mistake from an actual coaching standpoint but was hoping his assistants would make him successful. We will not fire miles without getting crucified in the media and the job being lessoned. It would be Solitch if not worse considering how long Miles has been here and that he actually does have a championship

if we were to fire miles after that, the national media would basically say "he's bo shembechler and LSU wants to win national titles" and they'd all basically agree. it's not like Miles is respected by the media for his in-game coaching (or has been for years). they are already pretty easy to fire the "he squanders his talent" and right now with Fournette's greatness being lost, there would even be a symbolic rallying point

hire Adam Gase now as your coach in waiting to run the offense for two years then take over in 2018.
GTFO with the coach in waiting shite. It does not work. FSU is an exception because it was a unique situation where Jumbo was a very close friend of the Borden family.

Again though,
If Miles did not come through in 2010 like he did, he was likely gone IMO. There wasn't much justification of letting him go at that time. The justification was even less after 2011.

Five years down the road, yes they will look back and say this. For the next year, nah.
You put pressure on the next coach to come in, install a new staff and offense, then go nearly undefeated in the toughest division in cfb.

what hardware did we win in 2010?

Perfect time because we have a great junior class to lead a new regime.
Posted on 11/15/15 at 10:17 am to SlowFlowPro
The dilemma is always: do you let him go too early or stay too late, there never is a just right time.
The every 4 years title game thing has now been proven wrong just like Miles' stellar bowl record and winning greater than 80% (fast approaching 70% when removing cupcakes) of his games.

I'm just trying to predict how we receive a coach going 7-5 or worse in his first year or two. Does sfp immediately ruminate on how to get rid of him or do we accept worse seasons than we've seen for a few years with the same hopes some have now.
Posted on 11/15/15 at 10:18 am to SlowFlowPro
This is kind of like the scenario of you "either jump or burn". We are far enough removed from 2007 and even 2011 to not catch flack. We can always find a reason to keep him for one more season. Truth is, pull the plug now and get it done. It won't get any easier whatever year we do it.
Posted on 11/15/15 at 10:19 am to SlowFlowPro
I was just saying that if he had another 4-5 loss season at that time, he was out. Many people predicted that many losses before that season.

11-2 and a dominating Cotton Bowl win.
Yeah, perfect time to fire.

We can come up with 10 different reasons why we shouldn't do something, but if you sat through that shitshow of a game last night you know something has to be done now. I've been a Les Miles fan and I still think Les is a wonderful human being and great representative of LSU, but last night made me realize we are just an extremely poorly coached team, that's not a problem that just suddenly goes away.
I walked out the stadium last night with some older LSU alumni football players and they were sick to their stomach. Listening to them talk, it sounded like they were extremely disappointed in Les and the direction of the program and what looked like the players quitting out there.
I think they need to talk Les into resigning or terminate his contract NOW. You don't keep him for the recruits or anyother trumped up reason b/c obviously his "great recruiting" hasn't done much to differentiate this year from years past. Unless we're ok with being mediocre. Joe Alleva needs to go with him.
