Guilbeau: Miles deserves to coach in 2016 and Alleva is a snake

At least two of LSU’s nine assistant football coaches and at least one of the school’s 14 assistant/associate athletic directors have told those close to them that LSU athletic director Joe Alleva wants to fire LSU football coach Les Miles unless he wins out this regular season.

But most of the article is actually a thought provoking piece about Alleva.

Guilbeau hits upon exactly what makes me uneasy... the thought of who Alleva would hire to replace Miles. I've seen nothing from Alleva to give me any reason to believe he would make a better hire:

quote:

In more than seven years on the job, Alleva has made only two hires in the money sports with both being men’s basketball. The second one — Johnny Jones — looks good, but it was only necessary because Alleva’s first major hire — Trent Johnson — ended up bad. Hiring a football coach could be Alleva’s first moment in the sun as LSU’s athletic director. Former athletic director Skip Bertman did the heavy lifting by hiring Miles and pushing through the enormously profitable ticket licensing plan, leaving Alleva a department he could mostly run on auto pilot.

quote:

After a year or so of Alleva and then-defensive coordinator John Chavis feuding and disagreeing over Chavis’ contract and Chavis’ desire to leave growing by the day, Miles attempted to have Chavis and Alleva try to work out their differences with Miles in a meeting.

In a complete show of disrespect toward Miles, Alleva did not show.

quote:

Miles could say, “Thanks, Joe, for helping get rid of the best coordinator I ever had.”

Miles could also thank Alleva for surreptitiously getting the word out about just how badly Miles needs to win his next two games.

quote:

Alleva hired two bad head football coaches while Duke’s athletic director before hiring David Cutcliffe. Carl Franks went 7-45, and Ted Roof went 6-45 before Cutcliffe, who wasn’t Alleva’s first choice.

Based on what he has accomplished at LSU, Miles deserves a better sendoff than what could be happening soon. Even if he finishes 8-3 or 7-4, Miles deserves one more season to get it right.

Alleva is an absolute joke. I'm really not sure how he keeps getting raises and extensions, but I can tell you that Miles isn't the only coach who is at odds with him.

Thanks for the substantive discussion re: our athletic director.

I can see you put a lot of thought into your answer.

Don't mind him, that poster is an absolute joke. My guess is that he works for LSU. I believe he was a staunch Trent Johnson supporter.

Miles should get next season unless he loses out.

GG will literally go opposite of everyone else. He's the worst of the worst. He's taking this ordeal as a chance to spew shite negatively at LSU and get clicks. He is the absolute worst

Sorry, bud. Guilbeau is the dictionary definition of a hack. I'll entertain some complaints re: Alleva, but the ones he puts forth are laughable. Skip allowed him to put the whole thing on cruise control? Really? Fundraising for the Athletic Department has never been better. Thanks, Skip!

I agree.

Especially if the losses look as bad as the Arkansas game did.

I agree. Part of the blame here falls square on Alleva for running Chavis off.

Yeah, if true, I actually feel bad for Chavis, and am now somehow sympathetic to his lawsuit...yet another reason to hate Alleva.

Well, tell me more about Alleva.

I can easily be persuaded that it's time for Miles to go. If not now, soon.

I'm having a lot of trouble believing that Alleva will make a good hire.

If Emmert or Skip were in charge of the search process, I'd probably feel a lot better.

If you think Alleva would make a good hire, state your case. I'll hang up and listen.

That fact would seem to support that Skip laid a good foundation and would not contradict in the slightest what Skip did in that regard.

Would our record be any better if Chavis was still here? Our front 7 would still be weak so we'd still lose to Bama and would still have been in the same malaise against Arkansas. Some of the other scores would've looked better on paper but that's about the only difference.
If you want Les fired now it probably wouldn't be any different.

Alleva is a guy in a damn if you do or damn if you don't position. Miles is that guy hard to fire because of his good guy persona. Well liked even though he stinks at coaching. It's the same old same every season and it won't change because of his stubbornness and refusal to adapt and change his philosophy. Any top coach should have a winning percentage like that with the talent that LSU keeps every season. But under Miles they will win enough games to go to a decent bowl every year. If that's what you want then keep him! I don't care anymore I been lost my interest in them long ago.

stupid to have signed him to that type on contract anyways.

He raises a frick ton of money and gives head coaches leeway to spend it on assistants unlike any AD we've had. He's improving facilities left and right. These things are what good AD's do.

Trent Johnson ended up being a bad hire, sure, but Johnson was sought after by plenty of major programs. He hasn't had a chance to make any other big hires. Will he make a good hire in Miles' wake? Who knows? Most people understand that the at major programs like LSU, the big boosters are the ones that push the buttons in hiring the head football coach, but that's a discussion for another time. If he indeed did drive a wedge between Les and Chavis, that's really, really bad, but excuse me for being hesitant to unconditionally believe everything the hack to end all hacks, Guilbeau, says. That's about all I got.

Chavis had become complacent, the situation we're in with our front 7 is a direct result of his laziness. I have no problem with not giving a guy like that 3 guaranteed years, frick his fat arse.

Not Alleva's fault Les botched the replacement hire.
