Everything is relative. Given that we'd be 1-1 at that point, who would you prefer to start?

I'm not sure why more team's don't employ this strategy. You'd have to like your chances with Poche on full rest against whoever ULL has on Monday.

Because there is more to getting ready to pitch than just saying, "ok, well your day is tomorrow, good luck." Also, players perform better when they know their role and expectation ahead of time.

I understand that.

I guess the real conundrum is why teams would 'waste' their ace against Lange or Nola last year. When you've got to win two games or you go home, why not throw your #1 in game 2 against Poche and your #2 against Bain, for instance?

Same basic mental preparedness principle. You don't want to concede a game. If LSU goes Lange, whomever, Poche, the coaching is staff is basically telling the team that game 2 doesn't matter.

If a coach lines up his 3rd starter against Lange, he's telling the team they can't win before the game even starts.

Conceding games in a limited set like a super regional (or conceding outs in a baseball game) doesn't make sense from a game theory perspective. The value of winning the first game and the bump in the expected probability of winning the series justifies an any means necessary approach. Statistically, your best bet is to get game one knowing that game threes are wild cards.

Based on the way Robe has done things in years past, I believe this is exactly what he will do. That's why I posted Leger throwing game 2, even thogh he has been the Friday night guy.

The goal is to win 2 games, not beat Lange

Retarded.

You pitch your best two pitchers the first two games. Period.

Also, you'd risk Poche not pitching at all? So he has to go on a zillion days rest in the CWS?

our pitchers don't need a full 6 days rest. the biggest reason we do that during the season is so their arms will still be good in the post season.

the pros give their SP's 4 to 5 full days rest during their season and that's enough.

he was dynamite after throwing 1 inning in about 3 weeks I don't think too much rest is a problem. But I agree, he has to pitch game two.
