Obviously won't be the CBS game

Decision would normally have to be made by Monday (12 days in advance), after this weekend's games, although a limited number of times each season, CBS can postpone their decision until the following Sunday (6 days in advance).

The games that weekend are:

Alabama at Vanderbilt
Syracuse at LSU
Auburn at Missouri
Mississippi State at Georgia
Florida at Kentucky
UMass at Tennessee
Arkansas vs. Texas A&M
Louisiana Tech at South Carolina

It's unlikely, but it could be the CBS game if:

1. Arkansas loses to TCU
2. Missouri loses to South Carolina
3. Auburn loses to Clemson
4. Georgia loses to Notre Dame
5. Syracuse beats Middle Tennessee

Of course, there are some other results in other games that would make it more likely, but all of those would be unlikely upsets, the only one even close to realistic being Mississippi State losing to Louisiana Tech. The ones above are all realistic. Even if all of the above occur, it would still not surprise me if CBS chose Alabama-Vandy, Arkansas-Texas A&M or Florida-Kentucky over LSU-Syracuse. Of course, when they choose a game, unless they exercise their 6-day option, they are risking that one of the teams will lose on the intervening weekend (Sept. 16th). The games that present uncertainty there are:

1. LSU at Mississippi State
2. Tennessee at Florida
3. Kentucky at South Carolina
4. Kansas State at Vanderbilt
5. Purdue at Missouri

My guess is that Arkansas will beat TCU, CBS will not exercise their 6-day option, and Arkansas-Texas A&M will be the CBS game of the week on Sept. 23rd. UMass-Tennessee will be the early game and all the rest will be sprinkled among the ESPN/SEC networks in the 4:00 or later range, with LSU probably on ESPN2, SECN or maybe ESPNU at 7:00 ET or later.

I'm almost positive that a few years ago LSU got the SEC to agree not to schedule LSU in the daytime in September due to the heat and due to LSU's preference for night games, especially the non-conference games.

I believe he would've broken the record that game, but he had like a 60 yard TD run called back

Maybe ohio st with earl bruce in the late 80s before that? Syraclose is 99.9999999999% a night game.

Texas A&M in '92, also, in addition to the '97 Notre Dame game reference in the post above mine.

So we have 3 confirmed non weather affected out of conference home day games since 1987. That is pretty solid evidence he 'close game will be at night.

Hoping for a night game so I can meander around and meet some people from here. SU alumni association is having an event in NOLA on friday night before the game at the Swamp. Seems like most SU fans will be in Nola Thursday/Friday then come up for the game on Saturday

Is CBS required to take an SEC vs SEC game if one is available? I'm pretty sure that was in an old contract, but not sure if it holds true. When was the last time UGA/GTech, UF/FSU, or USC/Clemson was on CBS?

Also, last year's start time isn't totally relevant since it wasn't subject to the SEC TV deal.
