We use one of the small, quiet Honda generators and run two TVs, a satellite box, and 2 or 3 fans. Like the other poster said they started cracking down on plugging into outlets several years ago. We've had campus police check our setup a few times.

No idea, but the little ones are really quiet. Been thinking of getting one myself.

FWIW, I'm not sure where you're going to get any kind of generator for $200, and if you do, I'm not sure you'd want it.
Those little honda generators are like $700. Amazon has a Hyndai one for $500.
This one is on Amazon. You arent going to get much more capacity at that price. Itll run the TV, but not much else. I know nothing about the quality of this brand.
One of the inverter quiet generators is going to run you at least $400.

Absolutely. Reviews have people running stuff much more demanding than a TV.

Until we get a quiet generator, I have been using a medium sized car battery (for riding lawnmowers and such) and a inverter with 2 outlets and a usb port. Works like a champ to power our tv and antenna as well as charge my phone if we need to stream a game on cable.
Also need a battery charger to recharge battery during the week.
This was a last minute setup I did last year for a game I didn't want to miss and have been using ever since.

Wow. Sounds like another good idea. How much did these items cost you? And it allows you to watch TV on it for 5-6 hours without running out of juice?

I went and bought some $10 rabbit ears from wal mart yesterday. It says they're for indoor, but I don't see why I can't use them outdoor? Anyways, I hooked it up to my big screen inside and couldn't catch cbs or abc. I did get nbc, but not the channels I needed. Any advice? Better antenna?

It's nothing but a atv/wheel chair/lawnmower/ whatever else battery. You hook up the inverter to it like you would jumper cables. You could probably get a battery and inverter for around $100 give or take.
You will also need a battery tender/charger to charge the battery. Not sure how much those run.
I can't comment on how long it will last or how much juice it can put out. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

About $150 using Harbor Freight for some of the items.
5-6 hours no problem. Watched 2 full games last week and never ran out of juice.
Drain of tv will of course vary the battery life.

I am always shocked at how quickly a TV wears down my vehicle battery, but never tried carrying a separate one just for that.

I've never used the MP-1 but I have the wingard GM-1518 and use it frequently. I do know both models the GM-1518 and MP1 only work with standard definition Direct TV receivers. Which you may already know that so not sure if this will help or not.

I can barely catch CBS at my house if I'm standing on a chair with one foot in the air, but it works fine at LSU. If you want it at your house, yeah you might need a stronger antenna. If you are just looking for it to work at LSU, I think you'll be fine.
