I made this one for $6. I've got it mounted in my attic. In Hammond, I pick up all BR stations, and all NOLA stations.

Edit: I didn't even make the foil backplate. Just the antenna.

Anyone in this thread have any ideas for the best places to tailgate where there is access to an outlet to plug a TV in? Obviously I will bring an extension cord, just wondering they are fairly readily available around campus.

that is a big no-no on campus. They started cracking down on "utility theft" a few years ago. bring an inverter or generator.

For these antennas I will need a digital converter correct?

Either built into the tv or buy one to be plugged in?

If you are using a new tv, it should have the converter built in. Hell, my dell lcd from 2006 has a converter built in.

You could stream the game on a phone with the CBSsports app and play it through an Apple TV.

But yeah an HD antenna is definitely the way to go.

In that DIY link above, you could do pretty well with the coat hanger version. Could build it cheap and in 10 minutes.

Oh wow, that sucks. Serious question - What the hell is an inverter? I don't think I will have access to a generator, so what would I need to do with the inverter?

Not sure what kind of equipment or budget you have but at one of our tailgates we had an iPad with 3G coverage and hooked it up to the TV and that worked like a charm. I would not recommend purchasing an ipad with 3g coverage if you do not already have one.

Caution. If you use a vehicle for TV, start it often. I have run down a few in my time from doing that. Some vehicles have an a/c outlet.

Yeah that seems like it would kill the battery. I'm just not familiar with how they work and how much of a drain they are. I have never tried bringing a TV before, but I don't really want to miss the Bama-A&M game and the Oregon game. Does everyone that brings a TV use either an inverter or a generator? I guess there aren't really any other options.

You can get a small gas generator with enough power to run a TV for like 150-200 bucks.

How much gas would this require during the course of 5-6 hours of TV watching if a TV is the only thing I have hooked up to it. I appreciate the advice - trying to make this work this weekend.
