Check it out. Mathieu wasn't that highly recruited coming out of high school. LSU and Southern Miss were the only FBS programs that really gave him a serious offer. Again, ratings can't always measure intangibles.

I don't have to check it out. I watched it as it happened. I wasn't laughing about the ratings being wrong, I was laughing about you being wrong. Mathieu was made a 4 star basically as soon as the Tennessee camp he showed out at was over. People seem to want to think no one knew about him, but it's simply wrong.

This guy looks to make plays, unlike welter. He reminds me of a Jacob Hester at LB.

He's built just like Hester, short legs, long torso. He's white (now we can move on from that). And he might not be the best athlete, but he's instinctive and is going to use his natural feel for the game to put him in position to make plays.

Stereotypes have become running jokes on here when describing players. Happens to both sides

True, but if the player was black and the position was qb it wouldn't be a "running joke" as you called it and numerous posters would start calling you racist.,
Most likely the same posters that are quick to call this kid DJ welter 2.0 or slow or a guy that's not gonna cut it.

It's what this board does.

I like what I see, but the fact that we missed on a scholarship LB and still haven't offered him a scholarship seems to be the coaches saying something to me...

Exactly. If our coaches thought the recruiting services missed badly, and he really should be a four star, they'd have offered him a scholarship.

The likelihood is that our coaches know we'll be short on experienced linebackers in 2017, and they're taking a flyer on a guy who might be able to provide depth.

He is obviously a 4.7-4.8 40 yard time kind of guy. I would be surprised if he ever starts at MLB much less DE.

Game speed is a lot different than running a 40 yard dash.

We have a new DC who came in when all of our offers and recruiting board were already out. We'll find out soon enough what Aranda thinks of him. He'll have the opportunity to compete for a spot and earn a scholarship.

He's pretty good. Surprised he didn't take a ship offer somewhere else rather than a walk-on for us.

This young man is a real good football player. He missed his entire junior year. He will turn heads when he gets a chance to play. This was a smart move on LSU's part.

I'm glad to have him regardless of color. His film looks impressive as a sophomore. To have multiple surgeries and miss his junior year, then to move to DE to help the team says a lot about his character.

Sounds like a Jacob Heater type guy to me. He was only a 2* and he worked out pretty well.
