Madison Prep got good in football soon after their basketball program took off.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if LCA did the same.

Sure , just like large Christian Schools, lab schools and even public schools. And if you think public schools don't recruit, you are not paying attention.

The only time I personally have seen recruiting were the kids themselves and it wasn't LCA kids, though I'm sure they do, it was AES kids telling Greg Williams he should transfer there. It was really more of a friendly banter between kids who play AAU together.

LCA tried to poach LSU commit Tyler Shelvin but he ended up at Notre Dame in Crowley.

So a school in the same area as the school he went to with an elementary coach with the last name Shelvin tried to poach a kid but got out poached by a school some people consider a football academy?

Actually, ND is a class program, in my opinion, with a class act for a head coach and a great staff. I have no idea why a kid would go to LCA for football over ND unless he was thinking his old coach would be there. According to what I have read, Shelvin was looking for a place he could help get back on track academically, more so that a football team to play for.

Also, I heard rumors about Faulk at least a year ago (his very young son is a student at LCA) but I never heard anything about Shelvin going to LCA. I would have loved that, honestly.

Only seen that one on here but the issues they've been having with the administration at the school and football coaches lead me to conclude that this wouldn't be too far fetched. And from what I can see, the issue resides in the principals office, but that's a far outside view and may be totally wrong.

LCA doesn't offer scholarships, the do offer tuition assistance, as almost all the private schools. It is strictly need based,

So yeah, they'll be able to offer "need based" assistance to the Top 8-12 football athletes from Northside HS...

You also hit a few of the points about the NHS fball program.
1 big point has to do with the funding for the team. Thwy have very old equipment & very little support in the school as well as the community, economically speaking.

Talking about Madison Prep keep your eyes out for his assistant coach. LCA wants to be the next JC.

If there is one area I agree, at times, that Byron could do better, that is it. But I don't think the reasoning is what people may think. Byron gets hyper focused and I truly believe he loses site of what continually pressing looks like. Just my opinion. If you are continually playing lesser opponents, it's easy to lose your edge when you go up against really good teams.

I guess 'moonwalking' on the sideline while they're beating 5'9'' boys from Delcambre and Ascension by 80 points is "hyper focused". TOTAL lack of class and they got EVERYTHING they deserved given to them by Arcadia. I don't expect anything less from Lafayette Cult Academy.

If they apply and qualify, they probably would. This is no different than any other private school. LCA is very close to Northside and is the least expensive tops qualified (whatever that means now) private school in the area so I would expect that would be a consideration to kids that want to play football. There are fairly strict conduct rules but I must admit they seem to have relaxed a little in the last couple of years, particularly regarding athletes, but at least one basketball player was dismissed from the school during the season for conduct reasons.

Facilities for a school like Northside are an issue because of the economic situation of the local community and the fact that football equipment in particular cannot be kept up to date without outside (non public) money generally raised by families of students.

We may disagree on LCA but I think we agree it would be a sad day if Northside has to shut down its football program.

Ah, so moonwalking. I can't imagine Byron Starks doing anything like that. I was at both Ascention games and there was no moonwalking. Since we didn't even play Delcambre I'm pretty sure there was none there either.

Sounds like you're butt hurt because your team lost. You reduce yourself to lying to make a point, sad.

The girls coach did do that in a game I was at. It was late in a close game as I recall but I could be wrong. I do know that he and the other teams coach seemed pretty friendly after.

Arcadia did hand it to them. Got in their head and made t LCA play Arcadia's game. Coach Starks repeatedly pressed the boys that Arcadia was not a team to take lightly.

People act shocked that really good players attract other really good players. There doesn't have to be some huge conspiracy for a few elite kids to want to be the Miami Heat.

It happens all the way down to youth ball.

Yes lacking class at times is correct, but calling them Lafayette Cult Academy is downright stupid just because you have a different religion. Sorry, but you walked right into that one.

LCA sent VC pizza after they lost ... Cause the boys shook hands and congratulated the LCA team rather than being ugly to them as supposedly other teams had.

Spoke with a VC coach after the game at LCA. Commended him on his boys competing their hearts out. They never quit playing despite being behind by a large margin. It was probably the closest district game at LCA. He was very nice, wish I had gotten his name. Seemed like a class guy.

I know nothing of the pizza. I think several of the coaches have very cordial relationships, though. Funniest thing I ever saw was the VC student body mocking LCAs girls BB coach a year ago. He is very animated and they nailed his mannerisms. I think our students were initially annoyed but quickly started to enjoy it, as did I. VC girls stomped us that game.

I'm not against LCA in any way, shape, or form.

I'm 1 of those people who realize & know that recruiting goes on in HS, public & private. LCA is right in the thick of it & in a GREAT seat to do so right now with what we've discussed about NHS.

If NHS shuts their program down, it might be the wake up call the community needs to actually look towards themselves to fixing the problems. We know the LPSS isn't going to be bailing anyone out in the near future.

Great age, They have a lot of opportunity for kids to participate in sports fair.y young. If we have any regrets, it's that we didn't get our kids there sooner. No school is perfect but we really like it there.

No LA HS will ever turn things around on their own. Sadly, this State just doesn't invest in schools or athletics.

It's all self fundraising & lots of individual efforts.

That is, until LA legalizes marijuana & puts the bulk of the revenues into the school systems.
