All of his mentors are black. All of his coaching opportunities were given to him by black men.

Playing does not equal coaching. There are successful coaches in all sports that never played the game at a high level.

Howdy folks, North Texas fan here. Just a couple quick things here...
Benford was a great recruiter, and as others have said, assistant coach. Even as a head coach he could always recruit. We just had an all-freshman conference USA player and have had several top-100 Texas recruits since he has been here. In many seasons, by ratings at least, he was a better recruiter than Jones. The problem was always x's and o's and strategy. Some head-scratchers included constant rotation of players to where none could get in a shooting rhythm. Don't get me wrong, he was an awful head coach. But, I have no doubt he'll do well for you guys as an assistant. It's where he belongs.

As far as Jones, most of us still love him. We were going to tourneys as little ol' North Texas, what's not to love. But, we are all ready to move on to bigger and better things. We are paying our new coach an awful lot, relatively speaking. Much more than JJ or Benford. He just took Arky State from a 10-win to 20-win team in one season. We are excited about what's to come, and wish both Benford and JJ the best.

Thanks for the response! We really appreciate the thoughts and I am glad you can vouch for the feeling alot of us have on him.

And that is fine. LSU needs a recruiter to go with Wade. Wade is the Xs and Os guy.

So y'all hired the guy that replaced John Brady? Talk about the circle of life.

some guys aren't good head coaches but are excellent assistants. Those jobs require different skill sets. No shame in that. If this guy is an excellent assistant, then good for Wade.

Success driven? What I am referring about is opportunity. The scale is unbalanced in the favor of white men while the labor force (players) are nearly 70% African American. For Pete's sake, Will Wade was a ball boy yet afforded to learn the game from the exclusive from powerful men in charge. African Americans seldom get this sort of opportunity.

So why aren't you blaming Amaker? So, Amaker (a black coach) gives a white ball boy (manager actually) the opportunity and not a black ball boy..... but you are blaming white people for giving him a shot?

Obviously, Amaker (who is highly respected) thought he was good enough to get a shot even though he is white.

Wade got to where he is because he works his fricking arse off.

Don't let anyone tell you differently. Have you read about this dude's work ethic? His life revolves around his job.

It is nothing short of insulting to him to say he got where he is because he's white.

I'm sure he'll do more than this "top assistant" we had who just basically sat on his fat arse and drew a paycheck.

Not a troll. I actually hope all of you that down voted and posted against me are right. I guess I am just tired of all the constant comparisons between new coaches and old coaches. If you noticed there were some posts that immediately did the comparison thing and said why are we hiring a guy that had a worse record at CJJ's old school.

I admitted I knew nothing about whether this was a good hire or not. Time will tell and we will see how many good recruits he brings in from Texas. So is it stupid to admit you know nothing but have an opinion anyway. Apparently so. But those of you on this board who insist on making everything personal and earning your stripes as ranters, might want to look in the mirror and wonder if you place a little too much emotion in a game that is played and coached by people you don't know to earn money for an institution that could care less whether you live or die.

There, now that's a troll!
