According to the article, Russell was dual threat, but Flynn was Pro style? Flynn was a much greater threat to run. Jordan Jefferson was a a pro style QB? He ran all of the time, that was his strength.

Just give us a competent one that can move the chains.

Flynn didn't have the athleticism to run consistently and stay healthy. Heck, Perrilloux bailed his arse out when he couldn't go in the '07 SECCG.

Yep, weird on some of that stuff. He puts Jefferson as a "pro-style" and qualifies it by saying he only rushed for 30 yds/game, but has Russell as a "dual threat". What was his average in his BEST year of rushing? Senior year--10.5 yds/game. Before that? 2.7, -0.3, -1.5.

Don't quite get the logic here.

Jefferson was a pro style QB. The coaches wanted him to use his "athleticism" (he's black) to help move the chains. If Jefferson was not asked to run the option so much and focused more on his mechanics, he would have been a much better QB.

No, JJ was a dual threat QB. Was never going to cut it as pro style. The coaches knew this and that is why they used him as dual that QB.

I think the lack of a QB coach played a greater role in his lackluster development.

I too was puzzled by those two statements. I as you take issue with both.

Flynn IMHO was a better runner than Russell, especially before he hurt his ankle.

And although JJ seemed no struggle with the traditional option and read option at times, he could run pretty well on broken plays, and hell...he had a 70 yard TD run against Tennessee...how many pro-style QB's you see do that?

Curious choices by the Advocate. Where's the editor?

This can't be said enough both JJ and JL unfortunately became victims of the lack of qb development at LSU during their time there but that is water under the bridge. Cam is here to restore order at the qb position

It's sports journalism. To them, black = dual threat; white = pro style.

While there is little doubt we struggled in our passing game for much of their time here, I think their overall performance in 2011 showed much improved play from what we saw in 2009 and 2010.

I think that Flynn was a pro style and JJ was a pro style QB who was utilized as a dual threat. I do question why they put Russell into the dual threat category. He may have been considered one by some scouts coming out of high school, but it is pretty clear he was fully a pro style QB at LSU.
