Agree 100%. After Dorsey, Flynn & Hester, name one, stand-out leader on this team? You cannot, because there aren't any players who want to seriously take the reins of leadership. And I'm not talking about guys who get fired up on the field.

Damn straight. It seems as if they are afraid to stand up and be the leader. It's either too much dependence on the sidelines or their personality doesn't lend itself to be a leader. Either way, it comes down to coaching: teaching someone to recognize what's in front of them and adjust OR recruiting players who have that ability.

Jesus Christ...i'm so sick of the fricking Sabanistas on this board. It's pathetic. We get it...he's a great coach and did some good things here at LSU. But guess what....HE'S BEEN GONE 5 frickIN' YEARS AND NOW COACHES OUR BIGGEST COMPETITION FOR THE SEC TITLE. Quit bathing in the frickers ball juice people...he's just a man.

Therefore any player that had even a year under him was gone in 07. So you are making my point as this was the first year with players who had 0 Saban system installed in them.

So your point was that Miles had the same record as Saban...all with no coaching, leadership, or SYSTEM.

If so, then we agree, mediocre seasons happen to the best of em...Hell, saban had 60 percent of his seasons here with 3 or more losses.

I thought you were saying Saban was superior, I misunderstood.

I don't buy that.

I believe Les is being compared to Saban the last two years. Saban entered a Bama program that was down talent wise and not very well conditioned. He now in his 3rd year is about to complete a 2nd undefeated regular season. Name me one other coach that has every accomplished this, other than '90's Miami.

Take a look at their starters right now and tell me how many are Shula's players. I'll give you a hint: It's way more than you'd expect.

The myth that Saban walked into piece of shite Bama program is really mind boggling to me.

get over saban, he's gone. it's not like mcelroy has looked great this year either. had jerfferso and dickson played the game would not have been close. it is what it is, we simply don't have a backup qb.

We lost to FLA last year and it didn't change. IMO the mentality of this years team is improved over last year. There are more leaders on the team this year. And, those leaders hold the other players accountable for the overall performance of the team. If a player makes a bad decision on defense, 99% of the time McClain is on their arse way before Saban gets to them.

LSU has struggled the last two years because Miles had the guts to cut Ryan Perrilloux. LSU's defense was a problem last year, but Miles fixed that. But the real issue continues to be youth at QB. LSU was set at QB and it all came crashing down when Miles had to let Perrilloux go. Right decision, but LSU is suffering for it on the field even today.

You mean 80. We lost 3+ games in 4 of his 5 seasons here.

Nick Saban is a good college football coach. Fantastic. Congratulations on discovering this. The point the rest of us are trying to make is "So?"

Exactly correct. And wait until a few of Saban's big name recruits bust and he loses to a UAB or someone like that. Now our quarterback play could be better, but give it time.

You are totally missing his point.

Shula was a decent recruiter and had some good players. Saban changed the enviroment, the attitude, the overall way things are done.

Under Shula we would have never developed the killer, 4th quarter is ours attitude we have now. That can be traced back to Saban and Scott Cochran.

All you have to do is look at the 2007 season as a perfect example of how he has "gotten in their heads."

Exactly, Saban not only lost 3 games a yr but also lost to teams LSU had no business losing to. He is good at getting into players's heads, but talk to some of his former players here & that gets old very fast, even those that are currently playing in the NFL. Corey Webster to name one hated him by the time he left. His style works short term, albeit very well, but long term...hell...he has never had a long term per se.

Just the way Saban thinks about the game and can articulate is so much more powerful than Miles' gobbily asian.

The Picayune interview from a previous thread made so much sense and I remember during the Saban years of 1. having a sense of understanding and comfort when listening to Saban talk and 2. seeing the fruition of Saban's words manifest them on the field later on.

I would love to see a similar type interview from Miles for a compare/contrast. Miles is just vague, generic, and it seems that I rarely see the teams actions reflect his words. In fact more often than not the opposite seems to happens (i.e. we'll fix "this or that" and "this or that" just stays the same)

Sure every coach has similar issues but if people can't see the clear differences and superiority of Saban v Miles then there is really not much you can do for them.

Basically as I posted many times before I want to support Miles because I dont want to suffer the mediocrity it would take to get rid of him and also I think as long as we have a positive aura around the program and good assistants we can continue to recruit elite talent that will allow him to be a Mack Brown type coach. Best case he is a lovable/winning buffoon worst case the slippage continues, negative perceptions prevail and erode our talent via recruiting and he gone after a very painful few years that we may never fully recover from.

I vote for best case but deluding ourselves that he is some great coach is not something I can do.

Bravo to Chicken for being relatively "high profile" and being brave enough to be honest about the situation. This is what we need and what will help focus our program on doing the things we can control to maintain our elite level inspite of Miles' obvious weaknesses.
