LSU made the top two in 2007 with two losses....
Bama made the top 2 with a loss and no conference title in 2011.

So why can't LSU with a close loss at Bama make it? There are 6 weeks left of games and these teams will start losing

It's October. People make stupid absolute statements every October. There is always some fear that 12 teams will be undefeated when only half the season has been played.

The main reasons are:
1. SEC fatigue.
2. To many one team conferences.

Put yourself in Gump shoes. Imagine how nervous the Gump Nation has to be about this game. It could put them at two losses and pretty much out of contention for the SEC and the playoffs.

Alabama's Remaining Schedule
3-3 (1-2) Tennessee
6-0 (4-0) LSU
5-2 (1-2) State
Cupcake
4-2 (1-2) Auburn

This is why... Bama win over LSU means Bama goes to Atlanta. History has shown that we can't rely on other teams to beat them for us.

Just win and make it a moot point.

Yup. If we lose to Bama and beat Ole Miss then Bama goes to ATL. LSU is their only test left. We have to play error free ball and execute to win in Tuscaloosa

Because the following teams will exist.

1. Undefeated Ohio State or Michigan State. We need Michigan to beat Ohio State then Ohio State to beat Michigan State. Also would be ideal if Iowa beat Ohio State.

2. Undefeated TCU or Baylor. Could really use OU beating the winner of this game.

3. Someone in the Pussy 12 has to beat Utah. FSU needs to beat Clemson. Then UF beat FSU.

4. If we lose to Bama either them or UF is getting this last spot.

2007 was incredible luck. I still don't know how Pitt beat West VA.

2011 Bama was beat by an Undefeated #1 team in the nation.

Bama already has a blemish and will likely be ranked around 7th when we play them.

We need to win.

This game is for the west. LSU will not make the playoffs if they dont win the SEC.

If we lost to Bama and they win out, we're screwed. They aren't putting two SEC teams in the playoff. Not after last year with Baylor and TCU...

The entire 4 team playoff shite was to prevent multiple SEC teams getting a chance at the NC. They even have a committee that you know is biased. We'd have to win the SEC to go because they have too many undefeated teams right now. Some of those teams have almost no tests left on their schedule. LSU has the #1 SOS remaining but pollsters will not look at that in the end. They'll give it to whoever wins the SEC. What really sucks is even if we do beat Bama, win out then we have to play Florida again. Hard to beat the same team twice. Our schedule is ridiculous and it should definitely let a 1 loss LSU team in, IMO. You can't seriously tell me anyone in the current top 4 is clearly superior to LSU. They could beat us but they're arguably just as good if not worse. I think LSU would skull frick TCU.

Schedules like LSU should be guaranteed a playoff spot in the top 4 even with 1 loss. Some of those teams do not play anyone. Only teams that deserve to be in top five is high SOS schedules. 2 SEC teams should probably go in the end assuming it all ends up like it will but they won't. This 4 playoff team bullshite is stupid. It needs to be 8. Only thing it does is hurt a mega competitive conference like SEC while teams like TCU get to dance in without being tested at all on their schedule by weak arse teams(and still almost lose).

Yeah, our remaining schedule is a lot tougher than UA's.

If we lose @ Tuscaloosa, we will not be in the SECCG. I cant see anyone but the SEC champ getting to the play-offs. Just my opinion though.

LSU also won the SEC that year and was the highest ranked 2-loss team coming out after conference championships. In 2007, there was an "unwritten rule" that you needed to win your conference championship to go to the NCG after what happened in 2003 with Oklahoma going over USC.

That is why the motto "Every Game Counts" was launched and used for nearly a decade after.

Bama made the top 2 with a loss and no conference title in 2011

Bama is one of the teams in CFB that plays by an entirely different set of rules than everyone else. Concessions are made by the media when one of their darlings needs help.

That is why the motto "Every Game Counts" was pulled out of the CFB lexicon. Now teams like Bama can lose their biggest home games of the regular season, come out third in their conference, and still make a playoff or title game push.

LSU isn't considered one of those "elite" teams that gets to play by a different set of rules.

If LSU wants to make the playoffs, they must win the SEC. Period. No two ways around it.

It's funny how their schedule gets easier coming down the stretch, and ours is backloaded. SEC Execs doing work.

And the LSU fans chant, "SEC SEC SEC". I hope every team in the SEC gets put on probation, save LSU.

If LSU loses to Bama, Bama would need another loss for LSU to win the west. The toughest teams they have left are MSU and Tennessee which I don't see them losing to either. But it's hard to speculate right now with so much of the season left to play.

I am still unclear on what Alabama has done to convince everyone they are the best team in college football. I don't think Coker is any good at all. I am not impressed with Derrick Henry - he looks slow and lumbering and gets loose every now and then, but seems to go down easily. Their defensive line is solid, but they are suspect at LB. Their secondary is ok. I don't get it. I just don't think they are all that great of a team. All the "experts" say they are a complete team. I don't see it. We have our issues - ST and some secondary concerns. But, we have shown we are not in fact, one dimensional on offense. We take them down this year and remain undefeated.

Depending on what other schools do, I could definitely see them putting BAMA in the playoffs even with 2 losses.
