Well perhaps you can help me with something slightly different concerning this game. I live in northern NJ, close to Newark. My sister and brother-in-law are flying up for the game. When should I start looking for tickets? I was told as recently as two weeks ago that it's too soon. I'm going to need 4, maybe 5.

If you need 4 or 5 tickets, I'd say start looking now. The airlines just started their fall sales, they'll keep updating them throughout the summer. I did just notice some roundtrip nonstop flights to Newark for $209 from New Orleans which to me seems like a good deal.

I really know nothing of the area but I am somewhat interested in going. Should I book a hotel in Syracuse or where should I stay? What's the pre-game atmosphere like? Is the bar scene nice? What's the transportation like? (Uber, taxis, etc)

I already have my flight and hotel booked for this game, I'm also in need of two tickets.

I emailed the ticket office a couple weeks back and they said by the end of May they will know if they have any tickets left for the general public. If not, the next option is to watch for season ticket holders who claimed tickets but can't make the trip to start dropping them.

So I'm gonna wait until the end of July, if I don't have tickets by then, then it's stubhub.

Good stuff. Our group is flying into Philly where I live and driving up. Pretty easy to get a direct flight from anywhere.

I haven't been up there in about 2 years so things might have changed but I'll give you my best answers.

You can book a hotel in Syracuse, or book outside of town such as Liverpool, Fayetteville, etc. Downtown there is a street full of bars and breweries (Al's Wine and Whiskey, Empire, Kitty Hoynes) that was good for nightlife. There are also some bars right by campus on Marshall Street (Chucks and Faegans) but those are mostly for undergrads.

I didn't have any problems taking public buses from campus downtown, but I've heard those stopped recently. Taxis were fine.

Pre-game atmosphere, in comparison to an LSU game. I'm pretty sure LSU fans will bring a great pre-game atmosphere. On the quad, the band plays, there's usually free giveaways, and some people grilling.

I was thinking of doing this as well, my mom lives near Plymouth Meeting so it'd be a quick family stop. But it might be worth flying up there instead of wasting the 3 1/2 hours each way driving

I'm only 22 so I could have some fun still at a campus type bar. Where are some of the better hotels to stay in close proximity to the stadium and college bars?

Oh yeah, go to chucks and faegans. Plenty of hot women. The sheraton is right there at the end of marshall street. Others I'll have to think of...

Nice post!! I'm flying from Houston to Buffalo and back on Southwest for about the same cost and looking at the costs from NO, they are lower than when some friends of mine booked a month ago.

$259 roundtrip on united for what you want as long as Newark works for NYC.

MSY-Newark on Wednesday 9/23 2:55 pm – 7:10 pm or 7:02-11:17pm nonstop
BUF-MSY on Monday 9/28 2:35pm-6:40pm (connection in DC) or 5:30-11:15pm (connection in Chicago)
