This from tiger fans that have been going to Omaha for the last twenty years. No question the new stadium is a state of the art beautiful ball park. Unfortunately, tailgating has really taken a hit compared to Rosenblatt. Tailgators are few and far between. I was afraid the NCAA would put the kibosh on it. Tailgating was a big part of the Rosenblatt experience but no longer. Maybe things will change in the future. I hope so because I plan on the Tigers going back and being a part of it.

I figured that since the stadium had moved from a relatively old and non-chalant part of Omaha to this location, closer to downtown and Old Market that it was a ploy to get people to spend their bucks at the bars and restaurants and also that police would discourage tailagting and open containers. I dunno...just what a friend from up there said.

The new stadium looks beautiful but I just cannot get on board yet. That old stadium is leaving behind a ton of cool ghosts.

Not surprised. How about the atmosphere around the stadium? Have they gotten rid of the souveneir vendors as well? I figured the NCAA would try and turn it into a watered down, corporate type atmosphere.

During one of the games on Sunday, one of the TV announcers bemoaned the decrease in space for tailgaiting and how it reduced the wonderful smells around the stadium.

after seeing the plot of land back in 09, i could tell they would leave little room around the stadium to park and tailgate. that sucks

I think PiscesTiger got it right. They have succeeded in driving fans into the local restaurants and bars. Just not the same experience.

Dimensions are exactly the same as Rosenblatt.

Same tents (although there seems to be more of them) selling the same stuff just different year and different teams on the posters, hats, shirts, etc.

Yeah, we drove past the construction site in 09

Doesn't surprise me at all that this is what the CWS is now, oh well...

How's the parking around the new stadium?? At Rosenblatt, we had no trouble finding someone's home ... kinda like at LSU football games but I felt a little bit safer!

This is happening everywhere in sports. The CWS may have been the last pure event to sell out. It's understandable, but in all honesty, I really have no desire to see the new stadium unless LSU goes back. There was just something that was completely brilliant about having the old stadium in the location it was, as it created a very unique atmosphere. The stadium is very nice...but worth all that money to build?

The Cotton Bowl did it. Others will follow. Build fancy playlands and get them out of sketchy neighborhoods.

He sends me pics of fans wearing LSU gear. Says he hasn't seen any Tigers in uniform though. He went to Nebraska. Don't think they've ever won one.

Hate to hear that about the lack of tailgate space, cuz it plays such a big part of the CWS atmosphere. I really think LSU might get a tailgate break from the cops/city when the team gets back there. We're too much a part of the landscape there. It would be a real PR blunder if they run us off. JMO...

I live in Omaha. I went to the game Sunday afternoon. On the plus side, parking is pretty decent, access is pretty easy if you don't mind walking. Creighton University has some student lots where you can park for $5-10, maybe 6-12 blocks away from the stadium. No tailgating though. I hear there are tailgating places to the North of the stadium, pretty limited and in a sketchy area of town. The tents are around, but scattered on all sides, not like walking down 13th Street used to be. The park itself has more leg room, bigger restrooms, etc.
BUT the character of the CWS is gone, totally gone. Part of that is that we miss you, LSU! We hope when you return, you'll bring the party with you! Omaha totally has a soft spot for LSU fans.
The new park is just a park. It's just baseball, not an event anymore. It's hotter than the gates to hell sitting down in the ground, surrounded by concrete. And I miss the stand where you could buy curly fries and onion blossoms! I have little interest in going to any more games, this is the first year my family hasn't gone to at least half of them in many years.
Old Market people are bemoaning that business isn't what was expected. Well, at Rosenblatt, everyone had to drive somewhere after the game. This new stadium is surrounded by hotels and restaurants. No reason to go to the Market and spend $8 to just park, and then buy their overpriced food/drinks!
I am so sorry, I apologize in advance to you in Tiger Territory, I think you are gonna be disappointed. Hope to see you next year!
