LSU should have moved on when the allegations and implications became public.

But they didn't. Hence the problem. Once they kept him after Husch/Blackwell, they immediately lost the ability to use anything from that report for cause.

To fire him for cause NOW opens the University to legal liability for keeping him in the interim.

Most coaching contracts have a lengthy list of things they could be fired for -- everything from seemingly minor traffic infractions to failing to report Title IX issues to the ambiguous "failing to represent the university in the highest possible character."

Coaches sign it because, well, they want the money.

Failure to report is a Title IX violation and could be his demise even if LSU doesn't act on it against him.

Kinda late for that as that Title IX crap passed to fire O when all the shite came out last year. They did not fire him then, kinda late to fire him now. His lawyers will eat and also if he was wrong, why keep him? The families of the people hurt by this will be in a cue to file against LSU.

If they want him gone, they can either pay the man, find something to bargain with him to cut the buyout in half or more, or have a big fight in court

Conduct unbecoming of the head coach of a major program.

How about that because of his ineptitude, abrasiveness, and arrogance he cannot assemble a competent coaching staff. He cost the program millions with the Canada, Linehan, and the Pelini debacles. He is now employing two coordinators who have no business coordinating anything at LSU.

Never happen, the LSU program would then be sued and way too much stuff would be exposed that LSU does not want...they will pay him to leave..

It’s more likely a threat of a for cause in order to force a settlement.

Woodward likely has a paper trail of things. Sloppy title IX, refusal to curb his inappropriate comments, pics on social media, my sense there are things Woodward put in writing to O, directives, policies etc that he O may not have followed perfectly.

Woodward did a for cause with Cregg based on a recruiting violation. Could be something like that too.

But it’s more about cutting the settlement by a significant amount.

I’d bet Woody has his ducks in a row on this.

If he has a morality clause with specific wording that he’s violated, that would be cause. Maybe violating school policies and rules. There’s a multitude of things that can be considered “cause”.

The contract will give examples as to what constitutes "cause." It will usually have some fairly ambiguous terms like "moral terptiude" or "conduct unbecoming the head coach of the footdall team." It should also have some concrete examples like being conviced of a felony, etc.

That phone call with the "froggy voice" identified by the older lady in the Guice civil lawsuit would be enough as Coach Fishing Hole froggy never identified himself...and subsequently never reported that outbound phone call which he was obligated to do.

He has a “moral” clause in his contract.
