I understand. But a slight turn is also a dramatic turn. At least for those that it effects. Which other than for a football game, most are not affected.

the turn the track took brought it closer to you (meaning going farther north before turning), but it's still in roughly the same spot off the florida coast east of Gainesville as it has been projected for several days now.

so the forecast for the Gainesville area has changed very little, if at all.
the forecast for Georgia, on the other hand, has changed dramatically

Currently live 60 miles south of Gainesville. Same distance from east coast as Gainesville. We have been advised by local/state authorities since Tuesday to stock up on supplies and to prepare to be without power/help through the weekend. The storm track did shift but the original track also had Gainesville in the "prepare for the worst" situation since this past weekend. The whole part of this state has been preparing for hunkering down and staying safe so the roads, hotel, etc can be available for first responders and required resources like electrical repair crews who will be flowing into this area by the tens of thousands to facilitate the necessary repairs. Shame on anyone (UF, SEC) who claims to be unaware of the disaster we potentially face and have faced for several days. Only fools prepare and hope for the best in a life threatening situation like this.

Thank you.
I prefer this response to the surprisingly vitriolic responses. I recognize I am more focused on the coast than on Gainesville.

What changed is that it took a slight turn to the NW.

I've been following it for days and they began reporting last evening and this morning that it moved more west, beginning last evening.

And no I can't go home. It's not supposed to hit Savannah until tomorrow night or Saturday morning. If it shifts back to the east, I will be able to go home Monday. If the worst case happens, it will be at least a week.

I think the point everyone is making is that UF should not have been relying on such precision before reacting, and needed to have a contengency plan in place. People have been screaming this for days. Now that it did shift from the projections, the game has to be cancelled. A little foresight and common sense could have gone a long way. This all could have easily been avoided.

Best of luck to you BTW. Hope your home stays safe.

This hurricane has, basically, gone exactly the way it was predicted when Florida decided they would play the game in Florida.

Are you high or just plain stupid? Matthew took a major turn to the northwest last night and strengthened back to a Cat4.

Wow, you're a special kind of stupid. Obviously the other 40 posters who have commented and even given evidence was not enough to penetrate that big brain of yours. I understand - you don't want to be confused by the facts though.

Evidently not because everyone else in the world knew where it was gonna go. Even Charleston called for a evacuation Tuesday

Deleting your vitriolic post and replacing it with one to try and garnish sympathy doesn't make you less vitriolic. Nice word, though. I know I am impressed.

B.S. there was no turn, and everyone was any sense this game was going to be able to be played in Gainesville on Saturday.

Here are the facts punk:

Matthews projected path on tuesday:

LINK

Matthew's projected path as of today:

If that is not enough info for you. Here is an article detailing the shift that occurred yesterday and last night.

quote:

5 PM: The National Hurricane Center's latest update has Hurricane Matthew's track shifting a bit with the center of the storm close to making a Friday morning landfall in Central Florida before heading to the north and northeast.

The storm continues to be a category three hurricane, packing 120 mile per hour sustained winds. The storm is located about 400 miles SE from West Palm Beach, moving Northwest at 12 MPH.

A Hurricane Watch is in effect for all of our coastal counties in NE Florida and SE Georgia, from the Flagler/Volusia line to the Savannah River in Georgia. Inland counties including Clay and Putnam are also under a Hurricane Watch. Other inland counties are under a Tropical Storm Watch.
LINK

The current track is much different from the one that was projected on tuesday, or even the one was projected before the 5PM EST update yesterday. I guess you don't want to research the facts huh, or did you not realize that on map on tuesday has the eye wall staying about 50 miles off shore and now it is projected to come ashore or be within 5 miles of the Fl coast?

Florida is not going to fined or sanctioned by the NCAA over this, but some smaller school in Florida might get the death penalty.

The projected cone was actually tilted slightly to the east.

From 5:00 PM EST on Wednesday, just before Florida issued a press release stating the game would remain in Gainesville -

5:00 PM EST advisory from today -

the rest of the track has nothing to do with Gainesville. The storms track as it passes Gainesville is minimally different from Tuesday to today. Florida was still going to get hit hard and emergency responders, hotels, power would still have been effected throughout the state and near gainsville either way.

They have know for days that the storm would likely be close enough that no fame could be played.

Oh yeah UF and the SEC should have moved the game yesterday at the latest. Even if Matthew didn't affect Gainesville trying to play the game while dealing with the after effects of a Cat3 or Cat4 hurricane was going to be almost impossible.
