My one hope was that Saban's pride would gnaw at him about his "failure" in the NFL as well as seeking Carroll succeed at Seattle.

However, he's perfectly content being a fricking legend at Alabama and ruling CFB as his fiefdom. "Total" control is what he had at Miami and he really could not get any more that that at ATL and his style will not work in the current NFL.

In other words, unless Blank gives Saban part ownership of the team, and Home Depot, he isn't leaving.

Saban was a huge failure in the NFL. He will not subject his ego to attempt the NFL again.

Nick Saban is nothing if not a smart coach.
His goal was the NFL, he tried it. It did not go well. It was not, necessarily, coaching deficiencies, it was his personality and the dynamic he created. I have no doubt that on a purely technical level, Nick Saban can coach in the NFL, he has done it. His preparation and organization are first rate.

His personality in the office, the sort of "don't-talk-to-me" attitude that he has been rumored to have, and the constant berating of players in practice and on game-day do not go well with professional, paid athletes. That is, to me, the long and the short of the NFL situation.

The NFL is now a very different beast than it was before Saban went to Kent State.

Think about it. What more does Nick need to accomplish in the college football ranks. He always wants another challenge and obviously there is not one in the NCAA. His lake house is very close to Atlanta and both is kids have finished college. “It’s time to move on.” Falcons owner would give Saban full control of team along with decisions made on personnel.

Didn't he have incredible authority over these decisions in Miami, too? He'll never jump again. Saban's legacy in the college game was built on a massive talent advantage. To his credit, he created that. In a league that values parity where the other team's 22 are just as talented as Saban's, he's an average coach.

He didn't know that when he left LSU, but he sure does now.

Plenty of coaches have failed in the nfl then took lesser jobs and came back. Hell the best coach in the nfl right now did.

Saban will not go pro until TUA does. He has a desire to have his legacy bigger than Bear Bryant. I think health reasons would be the only reason he would leave.

Nick got his little bitch arse shut down in the NFL.
His authoritarian style of freaking out on everyone like a petulant child doesn't go over well with grown men. He basically owns the players at Alabama, and he can get away with anything he wants.

No way he moves up again.

BS. Saban is not a stupid man. Why would he leave what he haves, for the NFL (where he’s already failed once.)? Doesn’t need the money or headaches.

The only thing Saban hasn't done is succeed at the NFL level.

Every coach talks about 'finding the right situation' -- and Matt Ryan, an established leader and winning QB, may present that situation.

This probably won't happen, but the Falcons are a rare team that might actually interest Saban or another elite college coach.

Dude is a multi-millionaire. He can build lake houses when and wherever the frick he wants. Why would this be a factor?

Saban isn’t going to a league that has an equitable system of player selection where he can’t manipulate the system to get a team of no. 1 picks resulting in him getting his behind handed to him on a regular basis. If he leaves Bama it will be for a broadcasting job or retirement. However, if I’m wrong, watching him get spanked twice a year by a Louisiana team might just be motivation enough to get me to tune in to the NFL again.

He isn't leaving Bama for the NFL. He wouldn't leave Bama to become the NFL commissioner at 40 million per year. Why would he? He runs the whole state basically. He gets anything he wants and doesn't get second guessed on anything.

Saban is not going g back to the NFL where his coaching deficiencies can become evident again.

It's not so much about coaching deficiencies as it is that he can't cherry pick his roster and have a huge talent advantage over the opposition. You can tie that back to his coaching but the guy is an excellent coach because he knows the game, pay attention to the most intricate of details, has mad organizational skills.
Roster management and massaging egos of multimillionaire players are the other components that are the great equalizer in the NFL. Saban doesn't want to tackle that.
He's going to obliterate the record for most National titles and then, one day, when he is a shriveled old Paterno-like figure he will hang it up. He's already a grouchy, holier than thou likeness of JoePa.

Yep. Alabama will pay whatever it takes to keep Saban there until he retires.

I'm with the "Not going to happen" crowd.

Why would Saban ever leave Alabama?

He's proven he is a solid .500 coach in the NFL when he can't influence things outside the 4 corners of the field with his "process" - so he has that going for him.

(ETA: Yeah, still mad. Wanna fight about it?)
