He was the best player on the team at the time he played. I remember him when I was a kid. He was dominant.

My two most vivid memories of his plays: the two punt returns against OM (Craig Burns returned another one the same night). Oranges were raining down from the stands.

His interception While defending Gatewood, all-American for ND, in that 28-8 beat down of the Irish.

Was at both games.

I met him in Shreveport while I was in med school and he was interviewing (before settling on Cincy for med school). For all of his aggression on the field, he was actually kind of shy in meeting people, it seemed.

At one point, he dated Becky White, the homecoming queen for ?1969? She also dated Bert Jones later and then married Hank Williams, Jr. during his convalescence from his severe injuries.

In high school, he played tailback & cornerback for the Crowley Gents.

He played at Notre Dame.

Edit: Maybe both, I know ND was established about that time.

Similar memory against Alabama, Casanova flattening John Hannah on a kick return. Hannah is considered the greatest offensive lineman in the history of football and had at least a 70 pound advantage and Casanova laid him out.

After Cannon, he was the next LSU 'god"...and my first LSU idol. Cover of Sports Illustrated as the nations best player. Injuries to his senior year pretty much robbed him of the Heisman. Nearly single handedly beat Archie Manning and Ole Miss. Top 3 player of all time in Baton Rouge. Period

He was one of the best I've ever seen in P&G. This wasn't a little man either.

i would put Andy Hamilton in the group with Casanova and Bert Jones … great receiver with good speed. Without him LSU would not have beat ND ’71.

Covered like PP7 and hit like L. Landry. They carried Bama's workhorse off the field 3 times after hits by TC. My all time favorite football Tiger!

I was really young but I'm pretty sure he played mostly CB at LSU, and safety in the pros.

He also had 2 picks 6s for Cincinnati and I remember seeing him return a punt for a TD on the MNF halftime highlights.

Nine-year-old me was watching that game at my grandparents' house in Lafayette.

17 career interceptions in the NFL in six seasons. Had 5 his rookie year. Yep he probably would be in Canton right now if he played 10+ seasons.

I was in duck hunting with a guy a while back and he said he saw Hamilton playing softball after college. Said he was playing first, standing there with his arms and legs crossed, smoking a cig. Said someone hit an absolute screamer down the line and Hamilton reached over picked it up, stepped on first and took another drag.
