Doesn't strike me as the type to pout and run and hide in locker room after game.

Anybody notice on the play before his rushing TD where Guice was stuffed at the line of scrimmage and Etling was in there trying to help move the pile into the end zone?

Etling got out and blocked or attempted to block on a fair number of plays

He had great pocket presence on the interception thrown to Dupre in the endzone.

I also liked the toss dive when we were on the goal line. The play got stuffed and he started pushing the running back into the endzone.

Like a few have eluded to, I think he gets it more than Harris at this point.

His short passing game was good and he has a good feel for those type of throws. He anticipates them well and makes good timing throws.

All in all the offense looked very good and functional in the first half. Second half wasn't as good, but thats okay, this was etling's first live action in a while.

I am excited moving forward.

To be fair this is how our head coach is and look how it's working out. DE is my boy though

If Miles starts Harris next week, it will show me that he cares very little about winning football games.

He reminded me a lot of Jarrett Lee in the way he conducted himself during the post-game interview. Said all the right things. He spoke in terms of "we" not "I" and made sure to give credit to BH and others. He said he would do whatever the coaches felt put the team in the best position to win. That's what you want to hear from your QB from a leadership perspective. I pray that Miles gives him a fair chance and doesn't pull the rug out from under him as soon as he makes a mistake.

This is such bullshite. There is one reason and one reason only why Etling was somewhat successful while Harris failed. Etling identified open receivers and threw the ball to them (in the first half).

That's it. It's not because he "had a presence", or any other BS. It's because he could play pitch and catch.

So then the question is, in practice, why didnt ANYBODY on the coaching staff see what is so blatantly obvious to the rest of us.

No one has been in practice so you do not know what the coaches saw.

It is entirely possible Harris (and Malachi for that matter...) are getting it done in practice. But under the lights Harris unplugs all the conditioning and technique he has learned in practice and reverts to old habits. This is not an uncommon thing in any endeavor.

No one should believe for a moment that if Harris was not the better option based upon practice that either the coaches or the players would consider starting him.

Correct, which was more than Harris could do, at least on Saturday. If a QB can't do that at this level, he has no business starting. Ideally, it would be great if both QBs could do it.

He was cool and calm in the pocket and seemed confident in what he was doing. He scanned the field and went through his progressions until he found open receivers. He also managed to elude the JSU pass rush except for one occasion where the OL gave him absolutely no time to throw. I suspect that's what most are referring to when they mention his "presence."

Also could be noted that Etling knows how much talent he truly has around him and knows that if he just plays decent we're contenders.

The body language of the team changed instantly. The huddles were short and focused on calling the play, there was no one going the wrong way out of the huddle. The cadence was really good at the line and the timing post snap was obviously improved.
The draws worked, the counters worked ,,, all better timing.
Danny Etling would be the new starter on every other team on the planet but let's wait and see what the dufus does.

or when he rallied Dupre back into the huddle on one of his drops. Those are intangibles that not every quarterback has.

Agreed, said the same thing to a relative IRT Matt Flynn. Etling looked in complete command. Comfortable with the plays, sets and reads/checkdowns. He side-stepped the rush, and made some nice throws. Also, BIG, he was NOT forced to blow any T/O's due to wrong play/personnel/play clock...confusion...and he is the 2d string qb! He was poised throughout, and his presence forced Jax St to respect the downfield pass, thus keeping them from overloading the box and opening running lanes for Guice. With a full week of 1st team reps, and a healthy LF, this OFF can be VERY balanced and effective next week. Sched sets itself up nicely to get this O on track. Opportunity is there, CLM and co need to seize it. GT!
