Are we in agreement that this isn't the same DALSU? He has the grammar of a 7 year old. Something's fishy

it's brand new to both qb's.

In Random's defense, Jimbo was about a 85% lock at one point. The only reason he isn't here is because we backed out of negotiations late in the process. I believe this had to do with the split in votes of the board.

Etling is the starter until he plays himself out of it. I like Brennan (a lot), but he needs to add more weight and mature. A year on sidelines (redshirt) will benefit him greatly. Brennan will get hurt playing at 195 - 198 lbs. by SEC defenders. I understand your "want" to have Brennan play, so don't get him hurt by playing him this year. Etling will be fine and if he isn't, the pecking order is;

McMillan
LSJr.....

We will need Brennan next year, and fast so I just can't see him RSing. Etling is going to start but Brennan will likely get competitive snaps when Canada feels he's ready. He could very well give him 5 to 10 plays to perfect and if we get up on BYU or anyone, bring him into the game to run these plays. The next week give him more and so on, until he can play some ball. But Etling isn't going anywhere people.

You have to have that experience when it comes to big SEC games, especially the away games. This offense needs a real leader and Etling brings that to the table. I can't wait for the season to get going and I'll bet money that his stats get much better as the weeks go by. Of course Brennan's appears better because he is just breaking him in. Probably letting him pass in zone defense with DBs backed off, just to see if he can get the right reads. Once he gets passed that point, they will ratchet up the difficultly.

He's got a ways to go but there is no doubt that he looks ahead of schedule. Which is good. Like someone else said, even if Etling was hurt at this time he likely still wouldn't start. Now if Etling was hurt in week 6 and he's gotten this game time, knows enough of the offense, he might get some real deal playing time. We'll have to see how things go but I'm excited about our QB position as should everyone be. Things are slowly turning around on that side. HTT

You have any idea how many 200 lb QBs have played in the SEC without getting hurt?

I was hoping to see Scott compete, but I'm guessing he recognizes that He's likely 5th on the depth chart. Good luck to him.

There's nothing comparable to gametime experience. Gotta go with Ettling

Why does Brennan being a freshman matter? If he's able to run the offense and do what every other quarterback can't he should play. It shouldn't matter if he's a freshman or not.

Because most freshmen aren't able to fully grasp the entire offensive playbook. It takes time to learn it and is why most people aren't predicting him to beat out Etling in camp.

I'm still hoping we don't have to depend on a freshman this season though

While I agree that it's not ideal to start a freshmen at QB, it doesn't necessarily mean we can't compete for a championship. Bama got to the NC game with a true freshmen just last year and Florida St won a NC with a redshirt freshmen in 2013. Our defense and running game will be top notch. We just need to our passing game to not be the equivalent of a high school team running the wishbone.
