After reading through this thread things are clearer than ever.
1. UT mad cause they didn't jump on this kid when they had the chance.
2. ESPNin is essentially the Perez Hilton sports "journalism" :sarcasm:
3. Herbstreit called him the best player in the country and wasn'twrong, this has to count for something.
4. No points scored on HB7 all last season. Name another corner/nickel last year that has that combined with his overall stats.

I think that the theory of "shock" journalism for internet hits would be valid if this wasn't an insider article.

It's even more valid for pay sites.

Lock down DB? Yes he is not in the class of many including those on the bench at LSU. Football player? He is one of the best in the entire country. Dude is a beast.
This should serve as motivation.

TM IMO is a great player; however, he has one fault that will hurt LSU. It may be a a small pain if it happens at the right time or a huge pain if it happens at the wrong time...
TM goes for the Home Run ...in doing that, he will strike out, I just hope his strike out time is not when it can hurt us much.

Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU Tigers

His 8.8 YPA in a seven-game analysis of the toughest passing offenses LSU faced last year (of which Mathieu played in only six because of a suspension) was higher than the YPA marks posted by Morris Claiborne (7.5) and Tharold Simon (3.6) in those same contests.

Mathieu didn't make up for the higher YPA in the interception department, either, as his two picks were only equal to Simon's interception mark and were far behind Claiborne's team-leading six picks. Mathieu's big-play potential on special teams would certainly warrant his selection as a top player in that area, but when it comes to cornerback play, his history says he is more apt to give up a big play than he is to make one.

He does get a little bit more praise than he should sometimes, but overrated is the wrong word. The dude has the FRESHMAN and SOPHMORE stats to prove it. He does make plays, tackle, good return man, etc.

But he isn't and never was the CB that I would have on the other teams best WR. And then to tell him, "all i want you to do is shut him down." I honestly wouldnt be nearly as comfortable telling TM that as I would the other CBs on our team. He does everything else better than most corners in the country, but not cover skills. (and yes it does have to do with his 5'9 height)
