You seem to be a reasonable Trojan. I commend you for that. Good luck to your guys in 2012. Boy would it be a fun matchup to meet in Miami...

Agreed...they were quite harsh on Shep. They were basically laughing at the prospect of Shep ever being a #1 WR.

Hopefully Shep steps up his Senior year.

Well to be fair, it was "game" and not "games", and I wholeheartedly agree Bama did not "deserve" to be there. The BCS is all about resume, and unfortunately "winning your conference" wasn't a requirement for that resume. I have always believed it should be.
With all due respect to you, since you seem reasonable, I put "games" because LSU, unlike Bama, had more than one big game in 2011.
Bama lost their most important game of the year, at home, in the "Game of the Century".
LSU, on the other hand, had to beat the Big East Champ (on the road) and the Pac 12 Champ (at a neutral site) ALONG WITH winning the SEC (Arkansas, @Bama and @UGA). LSU loses any one of these gameS, we are out of the title picture.

I was shocked USC was a preseason number 1 for them with all the holes they has on defense and lack of depth offense is impressive but so are many big 12 and PAC 12 teams in past years and how has that worked for them

Interesting that you're "fine" at all those positions with guys from last year, yet those same guys managed to lose to LSU at home. It is really funny to me hearing guys like Herbstreit act as if LSU were powerless against Bama last year. It's like they're pretending not to remember that it took Saban two tries and 7 weeks of game prep to figure out a way to beat Jordan Jefferson once. I wonder how many tries it will take him to figure out a way to beat Mettenberger?
See, this is a Rantard at it's finest. We're fine at those positions. When Bama actually showed up to play they shut out LSU, LSU could barely win against a struggling Alabama team in OT.
Turn that homer shite off and realize that the only way LSU will win is if Mettenberger doesn't mess up. He doesn't have to go off for hundreds of yards, but he'll need at least one TD, because unless you run the option you're not going to beat Bama by just running the ball, and Mett can't run the option like JJ could, and JJ looked like he didn't even know how to in NOLA.

You lost to a Les Miles offense with Jordan Jefferson as QB at home. That's pretty fricking bad. Just saying, best teams in the nation shouldn't need a mulligan.

You need to take that homer filter off your memory banks. I was there in Bryant Denny last November. I saw what happened. Bama's players were focused and playing their asses off. Saban had his best defense yet at Bama, the home field advantage, and two weeks to prepare. And his gameplan flat out got beat by LSU and Les Miles' gameplan. It did indeed take him two tries and another 5 weeks of game prep to figure out how to beat LSU, with Jordan Jeffeson at the helm. Maybe he'll be able to figure it out the first time around this time, but he hasn't managed that in two years with Lee & Jefferson to contend with. If I were a Bama fan, I wouldn't hold my breath on him being able to pull it off with a quality QB at the helm.
quote:I never suggested otherwise. Though I would point out that we managed to beat y'all in your own house while overcoming two INTs. It's funny to get this warning from the guy whose team lost at home when their QB threw two picks, and was only able to win in the rematch when he put on a perfect performance. How many of those do you think y'all can count on him having at just the right time?

Stop trying to turn every thread about LSU over here into an Alabama discussion.

I think Herby was simply asking some hard questions that are in the back of many of our minds about the upcoming team. The only way those questions will be answered will be on the field around mid to late October. The pussy schedule during Sept will actually be good for helping the team develop before they go into SEC play. We've seen Mett in back-up duty and in the Spring game. We have not seen him against upper tier SEC competition. Russell Sheppard has underachieved while at LSU. If he is going to do it, now is the time. Otherwise, we will need to turn to someone else as a primary received, which I think will probably be the case anyway. Will our head coach choke again in a big game, or even a little game? Hopefully not, but time will tell, and he is still taking heat from some of the fans over the NC game - deservedly so.There are indeed some questions, and I hope they get answered favorably. That said, I am ready to bring on the season.

IF our young guys pan out on the DL and IF we keep our key guys healthy and IF we beat Stanford, Washington and Utah on the road and IF we beat Oregon (probably twice) then MAYBE we can get to the BCSNCG.
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream---and not make dreams your master;
If you can think---and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son!

Interesting that they talk about Mettenberger's lack of mobility/athleticism. That's also what they said about Bert Jones, who turned out to be an adequate runner when he needed to be.
From what he's shown so far, there doesn't appear to be a problem with mobility. He may not run a 4.5 40, but he seems to make the right moves. His speed may actually be better since he trimmed down from 250 to 225.

Wait, so let me get this straight.
When LSU beat Bama last November, LSU "could barely win against a struggling Alabama team in OT"?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but according to you (and your fellow fans), ESPN, and everyone who would listen....
Wasn't Bama UNDEFEATED last November? Wasn't Bama "destroying" everyone on their schedule (one of the weakest in BCSNCG history, BTW) and wasn't LSU just going to be the latest team Bama was going to humiliate at home?
So now, in order to rewrite history, an undefeated, invincible Bama team coming off of a Bye week was suddently "struggling"?
Wow, you people really are what everyone says you are. Delusional at best. Amazing to hear you say this.
So, tell me, Gump, how does a "struggling" Bama team manage to make it to the title game over a team that actually wins their conference, and not to mention, beats more ranked teams than you teams with a winning record?
LOL. Struggling. That's good stuff.
