I don't think the media is thinking at all. I just think it is a convenient meme, and the momentum has overtaken the story.

The story is that Miles is a moron, so all news gets slanted to fit that storyline. For example, Porter gets a last second greyshirt after moving into the dorm and it's all over the media and blogs: Miles can't count. Saban greyshirts a player after he's been living in the dorms... not a story. Part of the plan, I guess. It's all about convenient storylines.

I think we're saying the same thing. I was trying to tread lightly for fear of being attacked by the rantards, but basically the media thinks Miles is a moron and judges LSU accordingly.

I think we are, too. Only I'm insulting the media for being stupid and lazy, not for having an agenda. I'm also, by extension, insulting fans who simply buy the stroyline without question. That's what gets my goat. That people buy the Arkansas and Auburn is improving meme, and then bash LSU, when by using the same metrics of perfroamnce, LSU is better and has been better and is even trending better (or, at worst, the same).

Auburn is being hyped because of the addition of Cam Newton who is "predicted" to flourish in the Gus Bus offense.. Seeing how Chris Todd did under one year (who was not very mobile and played with a hurt shoulder) higher expectations are set with Newton, who you know was recruited by UF and played behind Tebow before his incident at UF.

Secondly, Auburns offense was one of the best in the country and it was only in year one and they recruited the guys to fit into the system and it is in year two,

Thirdly, the main question is about the defense? Still has alot of questions, the excuse last year was lack of depth and injuries. Will the defense be better most would assume yes but it is unknown until football begins.

That's been my goat this entire off season and I'd like to slaughter that SOB but the Rant keeps it alive.

hit nail on head. Big game bob came from the media. only bob hasn't won a big game in a very long time.

Mack couldn't win the big one. v. young saves the day now he's a premier coach who would have beat bama had colt not been injured.

Wow, Michigan just got them a big time coach in Rich rod, oops rich rod is on the hot seat.

Oklahoma was the best team in history in 2003 until k. state demolished them. Only to be surplanted by the best team in history, u.s.c., who went for a three pete only to get a one pete, and now, a no pete.

then we have the whole debate as to ohio st and michigan deserve a rematch in the n.c. game because they are clearly the best two teams. yet, a big underdog florida gator team destroy's that big ten power team and show's the nation they wouldn't be in the top 2 of the s.e.c.

jacory harris for heisman in game three. ooops, jacory harris is a interception machine.

oh the story of the day from the media. one problem, if you listen to the media, you will look stupid.

Let's be candid here. If the meme has momentum, it is in large part due to the actions of Miles himself. First, Miles' garbled English, lack of rudimentary communication skills, and generally clownish demeanor sired the "meme." Second, the fact that Miles went 3-5 in the SEC in 2008 (and thereby had the worst regular season record of any defending BCS national champion in history) was the "meme's" wet nurse and au pair. Third, Miles' basic inability to manage the clock in various games throughout his entire LSU tenure reared the "meme" and helped it grow into a strapping young motif. Fourth, the inexcusable, mortifying series of blunders at Ole Miss in 2009 coronated the "meme" and imbued it with life eternal.

Let's not pretend that Miles is the innocent victim of a vicious media conspiracy.

If he wins the SEC again, it will all go away.

Love it how the media keeps picking LSU. Prove them all wrong Tigers!

Never said he was. Journalists are, by and large, busy people. they use convenient stroylines. Once a storyline gets started, its almost impossible to shake. that's what a media meme is. It's something that the media uses as a crutch. The media fits the facts to the already established storyline.

It's not a conspiracy, it's just convenience.

The human brain is amazing in its ability to make patterns out of chaos. It doesn't mean it isn't still chaos. We just like to make facts fit our patterns.

Epistemology notwithstanding, Miles' own behavior and errors have made the meme convenient. The media may indulge in stereotypes, but not blindly. Saban is typecast as a demanding tyrant because he is, in fact, an exacting taskmaster. Carrol was potrayed as a jolly players coach because he did, in fact, have a productive rapport with young athletes. And so on.
