Other than the QB, what makes Arkansas so damn special?

The offensive system they play in. I can't understand anyone not having them in the top 5 in the conference.

Because in the SEC defense is most important. They also have major special teams issues.

LSU will be underdogs to Auburn & Arkansas this year. Why would they not be ranked ahead of us?

I love the reasoning in this thing. He talks about how Alabama has stockpiled recruits so thats why they will be great again after losin everything on D. However at LSU things like that just wont happend so thats why we drop from 3 in the league at the end of last season to a preseason number 6. And we are behind 3 teams we beat last year(one in a blowout). The logic there amazes me.

Offense is equally as important, LSU fans realize this more than most after last season.

In 08 we had a better offense and a worse defense and ended 3-5 in the conference and 8-5 overall.

In 09 we had a better defense and a worse offense and we went 5-3 in the conference and 9-4 overall.

So how exactly is offense equally as important?

That defense is awful. God awful.

If you're going to knock us for a bad offense you'd have to knock them for that D

Like I said, I'd have them at 3 and us at 4. Pretty close. I think their D is bad, but I don't think it will be flat out terrible.

just saying with the 112th ranked O we can still go 9-4, but with a 112th ranked D no team is going 9-4.

I honestly cannot think of a single logical reason why Auburn is being ranked ahead of us. They had a terrible defense last year, they still have huge concerns with depth, they lost their best offensive player by a mile, their offense was not nearly as effective in the second half of the season, and they are coming off a 3-5 campaign. I simply do not understand Auburn's inflated reputation right now.

90% of college football fans do not look past the paper these rankings are written on.

I have serious doubts about Alabama as well. They're ranked #1 all over the place and it just doesn't fit. The ONLY reason I can fathom them being ranked #1 is they're defending National Champs.

They also have many returning starters on offense, including their QB and Heisman winning RB.

And I don't think our offense will be terrible. We have more talent on both sides of the ball.

Your only argument for Arkansas seems to be mallet

Their skill positions are pretty top notch. Joe Adams, Broderick Green, Kniles Davis, Wingo, Childs, Curtis, DJ Williams.....

If Mallett is dominant and some sort of defense is found, it wouldn't surprise me that they take the west.

No doubt, talent doesn't always translate into wins though

And the offensive system they will run with that QB, those WRs, and RBs.

That's just plain dumb.

First of all, you do not yet know who will be favored in games to be played in October and November.

Second of all, the odds have NOTHING AT ALL to do with the rankings, it's just bookies setting the odds to balance out the money.

Third of all, maybe the poster wants to know not only why they would be ranked ahead of LSU, but why would those other teams even be favored over LSU.

I happen to agree, I don't see Auburn or Arkansas finishing ahead of LSU at the end of the season. They're both overrated, IMO.
