I travel extensively throughout the USA and have had nothing but positive comments and questions about Louisiana, its' culture, and particularly the food.
I think your insecurities are your own and if you encounter so many people who think Louisiana is full of "hillbillies" perhaps it is a reflection on you.

The rally possum bothers me none one way or the other. I personally believe the players can do anything they want and even not wash their socks for a season if they think it helps.
We do have a culture of our own and being from Louisiana I would not trade for anything, however hillbillies is not the association people perceive Louisiana as being. Most people who have never traveled to Louisiana think everyone is Cajun or coonass and are totally mystified by our culture.
No different from us thinking everyone from Colorado is a weed head or California people being hippies
