Clemson put up 40+ points on a very elite Alabama defense. It was offense that won that game.

the team with the better defense still won.
Bama was 42nd in offensive yards per game and Clemson was 10th.

Bama had an elite defense and an average offense and they won.

Bama front 7 elite, bama's dbs are trash. Their Front 7 make their dbs look pretty good.

For everyone who says Clemson put up 40 on bama, Watson made some magical escapes that night, also Bama had to try and go get him vs forming a pocket around him and make him throw from the pocket. That would expose bamas weak dbs for sure. Clemson would have put up maybe 60 that night. Put Lsu's dbs with bama's front 7 Clemson scores maybe 2 tds.

Defense had nothing to do with it. A good special teams play basically turned that into a win for Bama because they werent stopping Clemson's offense. It was 24-21 Clemson then Bama ripped off 10 points in a row due to the FG then TD on the short field after onside recovery. Clemson scored the next 3 drives, but that stolen possession was the difference.

Elite Defense.

Even FSUs Elite offenses and the Oregon's Ect sputtered against good defenses

This works both ways. Alabama's defense struggled vs Clemson and Ohio State in back years. They also struggled vs Ole Miss last year.

Michigan's top 5 defense got roasted by Ohio State and LSU put up over 420 yards 35 points and averaged just over 7 yards per play vs Florida's top 10 defense.

Me personally, I'd take a top 5 defense, top 15 running game, and top 50 passing game. Of course just raw stats are not the way to go.

Wouldn't you say the team WITH the elite defense won though?

The Saints offense is fun to watch but watching their defense play is more frustrating then watching LSU's offense.

There is nothing more demoralizing to a team than knowing you can't stop the other teams offense.

Yep.

And the years we just have a decent defense we contend. But as someone that goes to games, there is nothing that keeps a crowd in a game like a suffocating defense.

Ohio State's defense wasn't all that great in 2014. FSU's was pretty good in 2013, but Auburn's was atrocious. Auburn's wasn't very good in 2010, either. Clemson's wasn't that great last year, but their offense got them to the championship game.

We are never going to out-defense Alabama. The only hope is to outscore them. That is how almost every team that has beaten them in the last four years has done it. The only exception is maybe Ole Miss in 2014. Nobody has beaten Alabama scoring less than 23 points since we did it in 2011. Five of the six teams that have beaten them in the last four years allowed 24 points or more to them. A&M, Auburn, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Ole Miss have all beaten them in the last four years by scores of 29-24, 34-28, 45-31, 42-35, 23-17 and 43-37.

We haven't scored more than 17 points on Alabama since 2010. We always try the great defense/no offense formula against Alabama and it never works. Even the 2011 defense couldn't carry us to a national title because Alabama is always better at that game. If you can't score at least in the 20s, you don't have a snowball's chance against Alabama.

bullshite. I must have forgotten that bama didnt force any punts. The defense had nothing to do with it my arse.

Clemson was up 24-21 and the defense forced back to back punts and bama took the lead 31-24. It was the last time Clemson led. You do realize that you can look this shite up right

Yeah by forcing back to back punts. I guess the Clemson offense just kneeled 3 straight times and punted.

When you win a game 45-40, you didn't win with your defense. End of story. I don't give a shite if you forced two fricking punts.

When youre down 24-21 and your defense forces back to back punts and you take the lead 31-24 and never relinquish it again those forced punts won the game.
If your defense doesnt force 2 punts youre gonna lose.

After Bama's defense forced 2 punts neither offense punted again. So yeah. Those defensive stops won the game for bama.

Defense. An elite opportunistic defense will find a way to turn a game around quickly.
