He did and everything else you said was correct. For some reason people focus on his lack of sacks and TFL(because they're easy to quantify), but he was an absolute beast at stopping/disrupting the run. He needs a bit more burst/quickness, but he was very good at disengaging from the blocker and finding the ball carrier.

I don't think he'll be an all-pro, but barring injury, he should be a starting DT in the NFL for 8+ years.

Was it Iowa or Arky game that Loston was all over the field?

Loston had a very impressive game against Iowa. Good way to see him close out his LSU career.

Simply put, both players failed to live up to expectations coming into LSU. Both players were supposed to be better than Tyson Jackson and Glenn Dorsey, according to high school recruiting experts.

That may be the case. I wasn't exactly in a clear state of mind at noon on New Years Day.

The Bears probably envision him as a Tommie Harris type player...potentially.

Yet, one of them was still a 2nd round draft pick after their junior year at LSU.

I get that, but the hype they both received out of high school was a little overstated and asinine IMO.

I agree, but I would also argue that this is pretty much always true for high school recruits. Look at the hype around Fournette...will he be great? Probably...still not known though. And anything short of Heisman type numbers and people will be calling him a bust.

They had similar production

If one RB averaged 75ypg, and another averaged 124ypg, I wouldn't call that similar. The difference is 66%, which is how many more tackles Ego had.

I, for one, am with you Mick. But the answer to your question is not here on this board. It's in the war rooms of all of the NFL teams.

Personally, I thought Ego would be a late 3rd to 4th round pick, and that Freak would slip to late 5th to 6th round.

Bottom line is they both have an opportunity to play in the NFL, something that 99.9% of us on this board could never say about ourselves.

Best of luck to both of them, and ALL of our former Tigers.

Ego was consistently the better DT IMO throughout their college careers...

I'm happy for Ego, really am. I dont understand the disparity between these two however.. They had similar production at LSU, how is one a 2nd rounder and one undrafted?

Freak was awful last year and his effort was shite.

Ego played his arse off and would have had a better year if he would have had someone else beside him.

Just the facts. Freak won't make a roster.

Ego played disciplined football. Freak did not.

Freak's specialty when he got here was his quickness and ability to get in the backfield and disrupt. He wasn't really able to do that during his career. Not only that, he got pushed around. I hate to say that about the kid, but he just wasn't productive.

Ego was very sound in his gaps and did not get pushed off the ball. He held his water nearly every play. Freak would get lost in bodies so many times and end up away from the LOS. Hell, earlier in the year when we were getting gashed and our LB's and safeties were over running plays I thought LaCouture did a better job than Freak playing assignments.

Freak was just disappointing. Love the guy, but he was not an impact player. Comparing the two, one's specialty was run stuffing which he became very good at, while the other's was speed and disruption which he did not show enough of.

With all of the physical attributes Anthony Johnson had going for him, why was he not more dominant? Ego Ferguson showed obvious signs of improvement throughout his career while Anthony Johnson was living off name alone. As this past season progressed, it became increasingly clear that he was much more hype than substance. The failed drug test combined with his name being on the list of names the LSU Strength coach put out for not showing up to workouts calls into question his work ethic and decision making ability. There is no doubt Johnson has the physical abilities to succeed, and hopefully, he will.

Go watch the Towson State game film and come back to the board and tell us about Freak. Manhandled by a 6'2" 265 kid.
