Nothing to hang their heads about from last night, great effort against an amazing team. That loss hurts us zero.

However, the Mizzou, Auburn, and Miss State losses are putting this team in NIT contention instead of NCAA.

Does Johnny have the capability as a coach to refocus the team and get them playing well enough to win enough games to get in the Tourney?

I just don't see it, but I could be wrong.

What say you??

Johnny and our players lack situational awareness. That falls on the coach. He needs to get his act together or this team won't make any noise in any tournament.

No idea. Nothing would surprise me. Maybe they rally for a 5-2 finish or a 2-5 ending. just frustrating how LSU basketball can't seem to get over hump

There are not enough upvotes in the world for this previous statement.

I think he gets the ship going right. Last two games have been much better. I feel like we are moving in the right direction.

Sure he does. He did it for the Alabama game after we had lost two in a row, and that was looking ahead to Kentucky.

I look at it this way: LSU is just a few plays away from being 21-3.
I we are fortunate enough to win 4 of the final 7 and finish 21-10, and maybe win a couple in the SEC tourney, we may squeak in....depending on RPI, the quality of our play, etc...

I don't think so....

it isn't hard to motivate kids when they're playing number 1 ranked undefeated UK

Now the rest of the lot of the SEC....thats a diff story

Agreed, though some of the lack of execution, which does go back to coaching, is puzzling and frustrating. If JOB3 had returned this team would likely have one or two losses at most and JJ would be praised as Dale's second coming. He's brought in better talent but has to find a way to coach them up; in particular the point guards and centers. Absolutely abysmal to have three guys in the 7 foot range and can't get 20 legitimate minutes a game out of them. That's killing this teams success as much as the foolish turnovers and lack of execution.

IMO the key is to keep Jerell Martin focused and aggressive every game. IF that happens, we have a legit shot.

If not, then we'll be up and down and have AU @MSU performances mixed in with some wins.

It's NOT puzzling. The lack of execution is mainly the Head Coaches fault. Yes, that very frustrating.

They won't even make the tourney if they don't get their act together. They need to win 6 more games in my opinion to sniff the NCAA.

Johnny is very different from his mentor in many, many was both in manner and practice.

One difference that I see is that while I'm not the biggest Dale guy here by a long shot, but he was a motivator. I'm not in the locker room etc., but my perception is that is not a strength of Johnny's.

He's seemed to have trouble since he's been here getting the kids to do the little things, and even some of the bigger things he's asked of them.

To me that's one of the biggest hurdles he has to overcome to be the coach some think he can be here and the coach I want him to be.

J Martin is obviously a player that LSU needs to be on, but he doesn't show up with effort and smart play lots of times, so the answer to your question is most likely no.

Yeah, one small defense I have for Jones is that he's young and can still improve. I was lurking at a North Texas board, and I remember someone made the comment along the lines of "After Jones took a few years to get being a head coach down". This is his first major college basketball gig, so I hope he's open to substantial improvement

I hope the Musselman rumors of him not having a say is bullshite. Given the way we look at times, I'd flip a coin as to whether or not the rumor is valid

Sure, all of us, no matter our age, can improve.

But, jeez, the "young" excuse doesn't fly for JJ. He's 53 years old, has been a D-I coach for over 25 years, and has been a D-I head coach for 15 years.

Neither his age, nor his years of coaching experience qualifies JJ as "young."
