Does Jeremy Hill Have a Civil Rights Defense?

If the guy he beat down did, indeed, call him a "N..." is that his defense? Could he be considered to be provoked with hate speech or something like that? I am just wondering if this whole thing is even an issue because Hill is the LSU RB and if the same thing happened between a white and black guy in a bar if the police wouldn't have just told the white guy that he was lucky he wasn't killed and to watch his mouth.
Anyone think that Hill gets off if this is deemed a racial incident to begin with?

IIRC, didn't Hill allegedly punch the guy once? It was a second individual that then proceeded to beat the guy down?

but but it was from behind, a sneak attack on a helpless weakling.

I know the accusation. Just wondering in this day and age him being called that will be used as a defense.

Well there's probably a bunch of posters who have that word in their regular vernacular.

you can use any defense you think will work.
sadly, it wont, and my bet his lawyers wont even try.

Thanks. Was just wondering.

In short, no. In the vast majority of jurisdictions, mere words are never an adequate justification or excuse for battery. Unless Louisiana has some odd civil code exception to the general rule, Hill cannot use his victim's words as a legal defense. Now, practically speaking, prosecutors, judges, and jurors will almost certainly consider the context in which the battery occurred.

The n-word defense for justification for committing a battery. Works every time.

Of course, everyone knows the legal code is suspended once someone utters this one magical word, and you can engage in legal violence and violate another person's "civil rights" to do so.
Come on man. Think a little bit.
