A friend of mine who is connected to the Knoxville/UT press says the UT Boosters want Jon Gruden and are confident they will get him. They say Gruden will be the flashy hire they need to turn the program around.

I'll believe it when I see it.

John Gruden is the flashy hire everyone wants. I agree, that one is not happening.

i love chavis but he wasnt as good as he is until lsu and the recruits he has access to. i dont think he would be as good except for maybe with a few other schools just simply due to recruiting. tenn is def not one of them

The "political" situation that caused the removal of Fulmer will not allow some of the booster to let that happen.

Is this "some of the booster" the same ones picking 1st Kiffin and then Dooley???

If so, you guys might want to let others make the next decision...if another hire is needed.

Chavis is not head coaching material. He is great at what he does and that is being a defensive coordinator.

you are high. The defenses tennessee had, even in fulmer's last year, were top notch and full of NFL talent.

Thanks for catching my typo, you are auwsum.

But to your point, I agree, the boosters that ran with Hamilton set back the program a decade or more.

People keep saying this, but I'm not sure what makes Charlie Strong or Bo Pelini anymore qualified.... or Malzhan for that matter.

In fact, the same stuff was said about Strong for a Loooooong time before he got his shot.

Why don't we hire Chavis as our head coach?

Didn't read all of the posts, so sorry if this is Germans but I am more afraid of him being hired as an NFL DC than I am a college HC. He has a brilliant football mind that understands the X's and O's of the game. I think he loves football and loves being the best at it, the only other challenge would be at the NFL level.

I was not trying to correct you or be "auwsum".

Simply wasn't sure if you were talkin' one booster or a number.

Well, I guess it's hard to blame anyone for the Kiffin thing. I mean, who could know he would run out of town after one yr?

Dooley was a strange decision, imo, for a program as successful as you guys have been in your history and with your support from your fans.

It was a number of boosters, most notably the Haslam and Anderson families. They worked with guys in the Athletic Dept. like Hamilton and Mark Ingram who is now at Temple.

The Haslams bought the Browns, Hamilton and Ingram are gone. I'm not sure who is honestly going to make this call.

There was a group of guys that were pushing for Chavis, and one of them told me that He could have brought in Malzhan (this was before Auburn went after him).

We could have had Chavis's D, Malzhan's O and Tajh Boyd running it. For better or worse, Bray would be at some WAC school.
