Quote:

“I’ve never taken the field as an underdog at LSU, just so you know,” Miles said recently. “The understanding somebody would say that, that’s their opinion.”

The first part of the sentence, I get. But the second part is a mystery.

I guess all he means is that he doesn't agree with the idea that LSU is an underdog?

A better question is: does LSUinMA speak English?

Miles' quote makes perfect sense to me.

Most of what Miles says to the media is perplexing and leaves me scratching my head. It's a shame LSU administration doesn't put CLM through media training and provide a speech coach. Most leaders of his stature and responsibility get this type of feedback and support.

It's a mystery to me how he can watch replays of his press conferences and not ask for help to improve his public speaking abilities. I believe Ranters might give him the benefit of the doubt (sans the Ole Miss clock shocker), if he could explain himself in a sensible and coherent manner.

I totally agree...i mean screw the fact he has won more games EVER as an lsu coach in five years, has won 2 West Titles, 1 SEC Title and 1 NC, 3 top 5 finishes, 4 top 20 finishes, 5 top 30 finishes, 2 BCS games and 4 overall bowl games...and has had 4 top 7 recruiting classes....all in five years.....screw all that...by god, who cares about results anyway right....we want someone smooth and sleazy up there.....not some genuine guy that is not comfortable as a public speaker. What a bunch of losers that measure a guy by his speaking ability in public compared to the actual results of his coaching. Before you start in on the last two years, I look at entire resume as compared to select data....and entire resume is better than anyone at LSU ....ever....yet we constantly get bs like this as if his ability to speak should make a frick....dude...winning championships, games, bcs games, bowl games....that is what is important....had he has done one hell of a job there.......you people are unreal.

i agree buddy....well spoken. You are like one poster i read on here yesterday. IF LSUwinst the NC this year, they will still dislikeLes Miles because LSU could be better with another coach. Think about that for a minute...what does that tell you. Were lsu to win a NC this year, It would mean in 6 years Les has won 3 West Titles, 2 SEC Titles, 2 NC's, 4 top 5 finishes, 3 BCS bowl wins, 5 overall bowl wins, 64 or 65 games won compared to 15-16 losses, and yet another top ten recruiting class for 2011....but they don't like him because LSU COULD be better. LMAO.....He would have 4 of lsu's top 5 finishes in the history of lsu....4 times as many top 5 finishes as saban, but we could be better....lol.....with who? god? Oh I forgot, saban is god to some. EVen though he has only two top 10 finishes in his entire career....and routinely loses to very bad teams (uab, ulm)...heis god BECAUSE THAT DUDE CAN SPEAK. Look at 2004 and tell me about poor coaching. It's like some of these losers think there is no other team with the same or higher expectations than LSU. There are at least 8-10 schools out there who expect to win like we do....and I would say 2 fricking nc's in 6 years, and FOUR top 5 finishes is pretty damn awesome...yet just not goodenough. unreal.

there is one thing that will stop them....winning this year. Yet that still will not stop some people. I know that it is hard to argue the results of miles, and when people point them out, it is hard to argue with a straight face.....lol..i also realize a lotof people are just on this site to get their kicks and aren't even lsu fans..

Winning big raises expectations..

I support Miles.. I like Miles as well.

I also realize that Miles has handed a Ferrari of a program in 2005.

A lot LSU fans here believe they could have coached LSU to 3 straight 11-2 seasons with that much talent.

The issue here is, the entire CFB world realizes that Nick Saban is the best coach in the business.. He can flat out build a program and coach a defense.

It's a no win situation for Miles

If Saban were still at the Dolphins, I think the negativity would much lower around here..I really do

perhaps, but the media is a joke as you know. They pick someone to jump on and that is it....I have never talked badly about his coaching ability. He is a good coach. He did OKAY at Michigan St......he did build lsu up some, but still hadonly one top ten team to show for it in five years. He was a big failure in 2004 with THIRTEEN preseason first and second team sec....look at not only the results but the scores (like people do with miles....1point win overoregon state...4 point win over troy st...etc.) In his entire career, Saban has had 2 top tenfinishes....that's it. But people would lead you to believe that when he doesn't win championships he is right there at #3 or #4 in thenationand that is simply not the case. The guys have different styles, and saban is more polished of a speaker so people migrate to him....just like politics.....doesn't mean the style of miles works any less...their lifetime winnings are very similar.....as is their recruiting with two completely different styles. LSU could do MUCH worse than les miles, and I'm afraid unfortunately we will have to find that out sooner than later. Of course, then when the program starts going downhill in recruiting and losses, the negatigers will just blame the poor hiring choice and he will never get credit. I am huge lsu, but I wish miles would win the NC this year and tell lsu to go frick itself and go to michigan.....as the visa commercials suggest, that would be priceless.

Dunbarton I figured you would take some time away from the board after reading that embarrassing drivel you posted yesterday. You have no shame. And I would kick your arse with one hand while holding a sandwich in the other.

I believe it was a response to a question about the low expectations this year from the media, about being the underdog this year. But let's go ahead and dismiss the context so we can act like nothing he says makes any sense.

Some of the comments since my original post have been along the lines of "This is what's wrong with the board", "these kind of Miles bashing threads are old" "Yeah, public speaking is more important than being able to coach."

If other people are making those statements, fine. But the original point of this thread was not to imply that Miles is an idiot, urge him to polish his oratorical skills, or declare him a bad coach.

I think regardless of your opinion of Miles, anyone would agree that his syntax gets a bit jumbled, and it was just not clear to me if he was claiming the underdog role for LSU, or if he was saying he disagrees with the idea that we're an underdog. The words are just strung together oddly, and it's not clear. That's all I was saying. Jesus Christ Almighty.

I have no trouble understanding Miles. I had the good fortune to not be educated in Louisiana, so that gives me an unfair advantage.
