Do you think Van Lith should be our starting point guard?

What are her strengths and weaknesses playing as point guard? Is POA the better point guard? Not questioning Coach Kim at all, she knows what she is doing. This is just for fan conversation and I guess eye test what we have seen from Haley so far.

She's not a natural point guard and it shows. That said, if Kim Mulkey has her playing point guard there's a reason for it.

She was 0-2 vs V-Tech last year.

She’s 1-0 against Vah Tech as a starter at LSU

There were a couple of better options at the point in the portal. But it’s Hailey Van Lith so you take her. She’s not as athletic as I thought. She’s not been an ideal fit so far. I think she would agree.

She is getting better by the game at pg. She’s an All-American and will develop into a helluva pg. That’s what All-Americans do.

And while HVL is learning and growing at the one, this team does not need a “classic” pg in the mold of Khayla Pointer or Alexis Morris to repeat as national champions.

AND: while some folks repeat “Derp! She’s not a true point guard!”—Alexis Morris averaged 4.1 assists per game last season for the Tigers’ national championship team.

HVL is currently averaging 5 assists per game.

Hailey is averaging 5 assists per game which is fourth in the SEC so I would think Kim is very pleased with her development at this stage.

Her playing the point hasn’t been the biggest issue. She’s slow on defense and gets beat badly.

Also, heard CKM say she is dealing with Planter fasciitis. I was thinking something wasnt right and that could be the issue

No, she is a score first player.
Bigger issue is we don't have a quick guard that will be able to defend some of the elite pg's will we see in March.

HVL is more comfortable as the 2 guard as it’s her natural position.
Still averaging 12 points and 5 assists a game.

If Alexis was the PG for the current squad she would average more assist. Morrow and Mikaylah are elite shooters.

I don’t think HVL has found the transition difficult on offense. She’s distributing the ball well and although her natural spot is as a scorer first, she seems to not be fighting her role on this team. Because of this we are a talented offensive team at every position.

As others have said, she doesn’t appear to have elite lateral quickness and struggles to keep fast PGs in front of her. I trust Mulkey to manage around this.

Our starting 5 are our best players. It’s hard to see any coming off the bench to get a “true PG” onto the court.

Also she’s battling a Liz Franc injury at the moment. She will get faster as the year goes on. She’s plays hard every possession on Oand D.
