The problem is that most dual threat QB's are not very accurate or reliable.

I'd rather have someone capable of making the throws and controlling the game at QB.

You want someone who can move the ball. Period. And recent successful dual threat QBs (college level) have been at or near the top in passing efficiency--including Dak, JFF, RG3, Russell Wilson, and Cam Newton. Average or subpar dual threats aren't very accurate, just as average or subpar pro-styles aren't very accurate.

I realize Hayden Rettig is only a freshman, but Rutgers is 5-4 on the season, and he hasn't gotten a snap yet. That may or may not reflect his potential, but he most likely wouldn't be playing here yet.

That being said, he would most likely be more effective than our current starter, which isn't much of an endorsement for Rettig.....

People seem to think that recruiting a "pro-style" QB automatically means he can make the throws, read the defense and control the game.

These QB recruits are basically a crapshoot. Yeah scouting services, etc, can usually tell you which ones are likelier going to be better, but getting a guy that can make all the throws, move the ball, etc. is not as easy as just getting a "pro-style" qb.

He has to sit-out a year after transferring....

100% correct. Again, JJ was pro-style. Many of the highest-rated passeers at the college level over the past several years have been dual threat.

And to the fact that recruiting QBs truly is a crap-shoot, take two recruits from the 2008 class. One was rated by rivals as the #4 pro-style QB, one was rated #8. Both four-stars, one 6.0, the other 5.8. One's name is Andrew Luck, the other's is Jordan Jefferson.

I meant under Miles, but yeah, the point stands. The current crop seems to be heavily influenced by the current offensive staff.

No. We got Mett, Randall, and Rivers back in 2011. I'm not talking Marcus.

And Harris appears to have all the tools to be a great passer

Exactly...Yet don't see the field

I'm not a coach basher at all.

But this is what I don't get.

Must be more to it

Harris played and would rather play pro style. He was more of a pocket passer and gets classified as dual threat because he can run.
I've seen this posted a few times. He is a horrible passer in the pocket and much better when he is outside the pocket. Not that he is terribly accurate in either situation.

Exactly. Flynn, Russell, Lee, Lee, Mett; There's been more pro-style QB's than dual threats the past ten years, even though many of the PSQB's could run a little bit. I get the feeling that Les now feels it's safer to have a dual-threat guy, knowing you're going to run more than pass with that system, thereby mitigating turnover opportunities. Like many, I don't think he's ever gotten over the stigma of the '08 season with all of those Int's. Either way, to me it comes down to maximizing the talent of your players involved in the passing game, such as last season. Certainly hasn't been the case this season. Things could turn around next year. Let's hope.

What is this based on? His start at Auburn? Are you from Bossier and have watched him play a number of times? I follow LSU closely, watched one of his high school games live, saw his recruiting videos, watched the spring game, clips of his throws in practice, all of his snaps in games this season and haven't seen anything that would lead me to that conclusion.

Looks like the staff wants mobile pro-style QB's. Every other pocket passing QB has left the program.

That isn't true. Wilson is faster, but Andrew Luck's speed (around 4.7) is pretty impressive for his size 6'4", 234 vs 5'11" 204.

4.59 actually. Same as Cam Newton. And you are correct Wilson ran a 4.50.
