Because it use to be that way. Dish branded themselves as the Walmart of TV and went after the $19.99 customer

When their new CEO joe Clayton took over 3 years ago he hated that and wanted them to be like directv and viewed as a premium product since they had the hopper coming out at ces

Long story short they raised based packages $5 and the fees on each TV $1. Also the hopper is now a $12 fee

The average customers bill for a similar package is around $3 when you compare them

The DirecTV CEO already stated publicly last week that they had agreed on a price for the SEC Network with ESPN. After that, it's all just a formality.

hopefully either 611 so it is next to big ten network or they put it like 222 right after the cbs sports network.

s a big difference in bills between directv and dish? I have done research and noticed directv is just a tad higher, but not as drastic as some make it seem.

As a former DirecTV customer and now DISH network customer, there isn't a noticeable difference in terms of service provided to your home. Both deliver excellent picture quality and both offer all the channels you could possibly want.

DirecTV offers Sunday Ticket, while DISH offers the Red Zone channel. DISH has the SEC network. DirecTV is going to offer it.

Price, probably about the same. All depends on how well you negotiate and who you speak with.

Equipment. DISH wins this one. The Hopper with Sling is fantastic. The on-screen guide is very responsive, no lag time until DTV. Also, I can watch LIVE TV on my mobile device with DISH. Can't do that with DTV.

Customer Service. DISH wins this one as well. DirecTV hires Burger King type level of employees for its initial customer service. Long story short, I tried to go back to DTV after a brief trial run with EATEL. I took DTV up on one of several "we want you back" letters that I received with a special introductory offer. Bottom line, three DTV representatives said the letter I received (all of them) were incorrect and I shouldn't have received them and in order to start service again, I'd have to pay over $700.00 for equipment. No thanks.

As a side note, all remote controls for DISH operate off UHF, not infrared like DirecTV - meaning no line of sight is necessary. Might not be a big deal to some, but for me, it's great as one of my receivers in my bedroom is lower than the height of my bed and I don't have to sit up to change the channel.

Can you watch any channel with Dish?
I can watch live tv with DTV, but it's limited to like 10 channels.

other thing i like about DTV is the sports benefits.
Big Golf tournaments, tennis majors, the olympics, usually have dedicated channels to them in the 700's.
Does Dish do this as well?

Not a knock because you obviously haven't been with Directv for a while, but you should do a little digging before spouting off incorrect facts.

Also, the channels aren't really close. I live in Houston and love baseball and want to watch the Chicago Cubs. Only way to do that on the TV is through the MLB extra innings package. I don't think DISH offers that. At least I don't see it on the website. And the Red Zone Channel and having Sunday Ticket aren't even remotely close to the same thing. Again, I like the Saints and can't watch the games in Houston unless I have Sunday Ticket.

Not sure. Haven't noticed, but I do know all of these channels are available to carry additional programming.

I was with DirecTV as recently as 4 to 5 months ago. DirecTV offers UHF remotes, but this isn't standard for every receiver or room that you have service with.

They most definitely come standard with the genie. I got one genie and got one UHF remote that can change the channel from a different room.

That wasn't the only incorrect statement in your post either.

Don't know if true or not but I was in a Verizon Wireless store in Mandeville, LA on Saturday and one of the salesman, a gump, said that Charter Communications came to a deal as well with the SEC Network. My salesman was a Tennessee fan. He and I agreed the gumps need to go down.

I had the Genie with 5 additional receivers and I only received one UHF remote. When I called to inquire about the others, I was told there was additional upgrade charge for each remote.

Again, could be misinformation that I received, but that is standard and on par with DirecTV.
