Was he not doing this at VCU and just thought this was how Power 5 recruiting worked once he joined LSU?
He didn't even attempt to cover his tracks, not to mention gave the fiance all the ammo in the world. It's amazing to me that the "strong arse offer" wire tap looks tame compared to what came out today.
Yeah, I know, Bill Self still has a job, but at least he tried to cover up his trail, albeit poorly. Wade on the other hand tried to be as loud and bright as possible.

Probably a case of nobody gave a shite at VCU and it’s different in P5.
But in the end, we’re talking about the vehicles being used to accomplish the same thing. Blatantly paying for play and cheating is acceptable as long as you can give a wink wink and nudge nudge instead of throwing up double birds.

I supported Wade through the “strong arse offer,” thinking that’s all there was.

I can't even fathom what was going through his mind when he paid the girl with his own bank account. Or had these conversations on his university cell phone. It's just unconscionable someone could make it as far as he has in his profession and be that fricking careless and stupid. I don't know, maybe he is/was just that arrogant.

He was a young guy in his mid 30s when all this happened. That's crazy young for a power 5 coach. Probably thought it was no big deal knowing all the other power 5 coaches were doing shady stuff. He will figure it out and win big in a decade or so once all this is behind him

I think being a guy in his mid 30’s and seeing successful older coaches like Calipari, Pearl, Self etc etc etc getting away with it..he naturally thought this is how it’s done. Too bad he didn’t arrive now when it’s ok to have bidding wars for players ..

I never blamed him much for the phone conversations because at the time, you would have never thought the FBI would be wiretapping that.

Yep, right on cue Dick makes his triumphant return at the SEC Tourney - smiling like a Cheshire Cat.
Maybe they could let him do the Big 12 Tourney and do a 2-minute expose on Self right in the middle of the Final game or maybe the ACC tourney and detail all the well known illicit payments to Zion.....of course that won't happen though, but I bet he gives a big I told you so and a pat of himself on the back to LSU during today's broadcast.
